To cap off National Safe Digging Month, Corning Natural Gas held one of its biggest safety drills yet!
On April 28, 2026, we conducted a full-scale emergency response drill in conjunction with a planned system uprate that required a temporary interruption of gas service to 19 customers.
The scenario simulated a contractor-caused damage event, resulting in a gas interruption. During the drill, our team evaluated key response metrics including dispatch and response times, Incident Command System (ICS) implementation, identification and isolation of affected structures, repair timelines, and customer restoration timelines.
We also simulated notifications to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC), local government partners, and the public, while piloting new digital tools to enhance customer tracking and accountability during shutoffs.
While CNG conducts safety training and examines procedures regularly, this was our most thorough drill performed in the field in over 10 years. Initial reviews indicate a strong, coordinated response and a high level of preparedness across our teams.
We remain committed to continuously improving our emergency response capabilities to protect our infrastructure and the communities we serve.
