As energy demands grow, utilities need poles that can support expansion while standing up to harsh environments, increasing loads, and long-term service demands.

Ductile iron utility poles offer the strength, longevity, and adaptability needed to help improve grid reliability, reduce maintenance demands, and support everything from remote expansion to renewable energy integration.

For Richard and Aaron Loosli, McWane has been part of the family for more than half a century.

Richard began his career at our Provo facility in May 1972 on the foundry finishing line. A year later, he moved into accounting, where he worked with product numbering and computer programming before going on to serve in purchasing and accounting roles throughout his career. He retired in 2003 after 31 years with McWane.

Just a few years later, Aaron followed in his father’s footsteps, quite literally. In March 2006, he joined McWane as an accounting clerk in the same position his dad had retired from. From there, Aaron moved into shipping and inside sales, then outside sales for McWane’s pipe division before becoming Western Regional Sales Manager for McWane Poles in 2021.

This year marks Aaron’s 20th year with McWane. Together, father and son represent 51 years of service at the McWane Provo facility. That’s half of the facility’s entire history.

We’re proud of the generations of employees who have built their careers here, passed along their knowledge, and helped shape McWane into what it is today. Richard and Aaron’s story is one remarkable example of that legacy.

Replacement involves much more than the cost of the pole itself. Labor, equipment, site access, permitting, and material selection all play a role in the total investment. The lowest upfront cost isn’t always the lowest total cost, either. You also need to consider maintenance, service life, and the potential for future replacements.

Choosing a durable material like ductile iron from McWane Poles can help reduce maintenance, minimize outages, and improve the resilience of your distribution network. Understanding these factors can help utilities make smarter infrastructure decisions today while reducing costs over the life of the asset.

In May, our Provo, Utah, facility celebrated a milestone few companies ever reach: 100 years of operation.

In recognition of this accomplishment, we were honored that the neighboring city of Springville officially proclaimed May 22 as McWane Day.

As one speaker at the event put it, it’s rare for a business to last 100 years. It’s even rarer for a business to spend a century making the same product. And it’s rarer still to do it under the same ownership.

We believe that our longevity reflects the values, dedication, and craftsmanship of the people who have built McWane’s legacy over the past century.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this remarkable journey. Here’s to the next 100 years.
