Those hot and humid MN summers are right around the corner - making spring the perfect time to get your mini-split system installed!

Ductless mini-splits are a great option for conditioning spaces that are not connected to a main HVAC system.

Small/mid-size spaces that don’t have heat and AC (such as a garage, porch, or workshop) tend to be underused due to how uncomfortable they are throughout most of the year because of our freezing winters and hot summers. Last week we had a customer that used their garage as an additional workspace. There was already a garage heater installed but the customer wanted an HVAC system that could provide both heating and cooling. We were able to provide them with a simple solution by installing a mini-split system!

What is a mini-split?
A mini-split system is a heat pump that has the ability to not only heat rooms but also cool them… all while only using electricity!

Out of all the new installs and retrofits Yeo Mechanical LLC had in 2022, this retrofit was one of my favorites!

A customer had a 1938 gravity furnace that was still in working order, but due to the fact that gravity furnaces take up a lot of valuable space and are only 50% efficient - the customer decided it would be best to upgrade.

Why is recommended to have your furnace serviced with a tune-up before winter hits?

A tune-up service has a variety of benefits that are all of benefit to the homeowner:
- can reveal compromised parts that impact the safety of the equipment.
- can reveal parts or components that are not functioning properly and are likely to fail soon or that can lead to whole-equipment damage [requiring a full furnace replacement].
- ensures your equipment is reliable and able to run as efficiently as possible [keeping your energy bill low].
- keeps your furnace warranty valid [nearly all warranties will not cover equipment damage/failure that is determined caused by improper maintenance].

Here, a homeowner noticed their furnace was suddenly not firing up consistently - our diagnostic testing determined the inducer motor [which expels exhaust gas from the furnace] was on it's last legs and needed to be replaced. The inducer motor helps your furnace run safely, so the furnace will usually shut off when it detects the motor has not turned on. While replacing the inducer motor we also discover several areas on the transition assembly that were severely cracked and rusted. We were able to replace both components same-day and their furnace was once again functioning and reliable!

[luckily, this was caught and addressed before winter started and the homeowners were not having to go without heat!]

A customer that regularly uses their garage space as a social/hangout area requested to have a heater installed - making the garage temperature tolerable and enjoyable even during the winter!

This heater install included mounting the equipment, placing exhaust venting, running a new gas pipe line, and connecting low voltage wiring with a new garage thermostat.

Anytime you work with gas/gas piping, it's essential that the gas line be tested and checked to ensure it is safe for operation. To do that, we pressurize the gas line to 50psi using an air compressor and then perform a bubble test along the entire line to ensure there are no leaks. Once it has been confirmed there are no leaks, the gas is turned on and we use a manometer to ensure the equipment is burning the proper amount of gas. Using that reading, we can adjust the gas flow rate as needed to ensure it matches the manufacture recommendation.
