WHY WE HAND-BRUSH RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAYS

For residential driveways, we choose to hand-brush our sealcoat because it allows us to work the sealer directly into the texture of the asphalt and maintain consistent coverage across the entire driveway.

Hand application also gives us more control around edges, cracks, and areas where the asphalt texture varies. Instead of simply spraying a layer over the surface, we can physically work the sealer into the pavement as we apply it.

Spraying can be an effective application method, especially for larger commercial lots, but for residential driveways, we prefer the control and coverage that hand-brushing provides.

THE DETAILS START AT THE EDGE.

Before we seal a driveway, we use our power edger with a sharp metal blade to clean up the perimeter and remove weeds, grass, and overgrowth along the edges of the asphalt.

This creates a clean, defined edge and helps prevent vegetation from interfering with the sealcoating application.

Proper preparation isn’t just about making the driveway look better — it helps us apply the sealcoat to a clean, properly prepared surface.

THE PREP IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE JOB.

Before we apply any sealcoat, we use our power wire broom to thoroughly prepare the asphalt.

The rotating wire bristles help loosen and remove dirt, loose debris, grass, and other material that can interfere with the sealcoat bonding properly to the pavement. Once the surface is cleaned up, we power blow everything off and continue with the rest of our preparation.

Why does this matter? A quality sealcoat starts with a properly prepared surface. Skipping the prep can mean sealing over contaminants and loose material instead of getting the sealer directly onto the asphalt.
