Nobody handed me a toolbelt and said, “You’ll need this.”
Except my husband.

I’ve stood in sewage.
In mud.
Worked in sawdust and drywall dust that sticks to literally everything.

I’ve layered up in extreme cold and poured sweat in the summer heat.
Crawled through muddy crawl spaces to hang water lines, wire, and duct work.
Climbed ladders carrying tools heavier than a sleeping child.

So no — I wasn’t raised to do this.

But I’ve got a patient teacher.
He’s taught me everything I know trade.

At RMC, I work alongside Drew — not in his shadow.
He brought decades of trade knowledge.

I brought my own strengths.

I run bids.
I shop suppliers.
I balance the numbers.
I handle state and federal filings.
I manage all the many backend things that keep the lights on and the doors open.

He taught me the trade.
I helped build the structure around it.

Different strengths. Same standard. And the standard is high.

Do I always know the answer or how to do everything?
No.

But I figure it out.

And my daughters get to see that.

They see that you don’t have to grow up in something to grow into it.
They see that learning is strength. They see that you can stand beside someone — not behind them — and build something real.

So don’t confuse “learned” with “less.”

I wasn’t raised in this world.
But I’ve earned my place in it.
