You are awoken in the middle of the night by the sound of a smoke detector and a faint smell of smoke
and you rush out of your room only to be met with a thick cloud of smoke. You breathe in and it is hard
to not cough because that is not oxygen you are breathing in at this point. You rush as fast as you can
into you kids rooms and hope you are not too late and thankful to Jesus (first and foremost) that you are
not and you get your entire family out of your house and in the panic you get on the phone to 911 and
the fire department comes and you stand helplessly as they brake windows or whatever they need to do
to save whatever they can. All you think about is how thankful to God you are to be safe and have all the
kids with you and healthy, and as the initial shock clears you begin to think about the pictures and the
irreplaceable items you have inside what you call home. You watch as they do finally contain the fire and
thankfully only the inside of the home is damaged. You then need to find yourself somewhere that you
can stay because there is no longer power to your home and the smell of smoke is so thick and
everything inside is covered in a black film and you really just don’t know what to do at that point, but
you find yourself somewhere safe where the kids can sleep (hopefully) and you can process what just
happened. You step forward into the next day and as it was for us we called our insurance company
(Alfa) and our adjuster (very awesome man) came out that very same day. You are walking through
what used to be your home and he asks if we know a contractor and I said no sir I really don’t know
anyone to call, so he gives a recommendation based on that he has worked with them before and it
turns out to be Hendrix Construction. Now I have never heard of this company but Jonathan the
estimator came out and right out of the gate I was so impressed because they agreed to meet the
adjustor at the house and they were able to go over everything right then and there and they worked
together so well it became my second moment where I thought we are going to be able to work through
this. The first moment came with the adjuster being so reassuring that he will assist us anyway he can.
Hendrix came through with their quote very quickly and it was extremely detailed which also was really
awesome because you could literally see on paper what was to be done in each room. I had many
questions regarding this which Jonathan answered in a very timely manner and he made it very easy to
choose Hendrix to help us rebuild our future. They began demo even while we were sifting through the
mess and they were very considerate to wait on us for anything we needed to write down and even
helped us out a few times in the process. Now I was seeing others outside of just Jonathan and even the
owner of the company came by to take a look at the project to see and he was very kind and reassuring
as well to us at this critical time. He gives a very realistic timeframe for the project and my wife
requested a very seemingly unrealistic timeframe and he just said he would do their very best to have us
in at Thanksgiving in lieu of after Christmas….well that really was the two different timeframes and we
just launched from there into the project. I wish I could remember each detail of how much this
company helped us along the project, but all I can say was that each of these guys from the top to the
bottom gave it their all! In each situation that we would come up with, whether it was a change, or a
problem neither of us had seen originally, they worked with us and even gave a few ideas to help us
along. We were so happy with everything they did that we called in for lunch a few times and sat and
ate with this special group of guys and enjoyed even a few laughs. You don’t realize how important
these moments were when you are living away from your home and dealing with all the issues and the
waiting period, but they were so instrumental to the totality of the recovery and that meant so very
much to my family. As time passed by we thought for sure that our Thanksgiving date would not be
reached but they really stepped it up for our family (all this while waiting for even some of the money to
come in from the insurance company) and made the dream a reality and they got enough done for us
that would could spend Thanksgiving in our home and we could not be more thankful for that! They
came back after and finished everything off even while we were living in the home and they just made
everything so much easier for us. We can look at our home now and the exceptional work that they did
and we are so thankful that this company we never heard of before this ended up being our greatest
asset to recovery. We hated to see the Hendrix trucks pull out for the last time because all of them were
so awesome, but at the same time it was a milestone for recovery and we welcomed that as well. We
sure know who we will be calling for construction needs and the next time I get asked the question “do
you know a builder you can call?” I will sure have the answer and I will tell everyone I know because
while Jesus Christ deserves all the glory and we give that all to him, Hendrix certainly deserves the credit
for what they did for our family. Thank you so very much Hendrix Construction for ALL that you did for
our family and helping to smooth out a very rough road in our lives!
Sincerely,
The Koehoorn Family
