HISTORY OF B&T PART 6
James W. Gibney, an employee of the W.P. Taylor Company, also owned by William P. Taylor, obtained a series of patents from 1908 to 1911 for improvements in the design and manufacture of dust proof self-locking journal boxes and covers. While there is no direct evidence that B&T made these products, it is probable. Oddly enough, there is record of a B&T catalog in 1904 and in 1922, presumably missing this era.
While ownership of the company remained with William P. Taylor in the early 1920s, leadership of Bingham and Taylor is delegated to J.W. Gibney who becomes the Company's Director. A new patent, assigned to Taylor, is filed in 1920 for improvements in covers for service boxes. The "Taylor Repair Lid" was a cover to fit the Buffalo pattern curb boxes (patent no. 1,349,610).
By 1929 it appears that ownership shifted as Bingham and Taylor is officially incorporated in Buffalo, NY with the owners listed as: James W. Gibney, William J. Gibney, and James L. Gibney. Bingham and Taylor also purchased the W.P. Taylor Company, presumably ending the era of Taylor ownership in B&T.
