Good Afternoon ! As “ICEAGGEDON” is approaching now is the time to take action. Here are some reminders
Protecting Your Home
Drip Your Faucets: This is critical. Leave a cold water tap dripping (a slow trickle) on the lowest level of your house to keep water moving and prevent pipes from freezing and bursting.
Open Cabinet Doors: Open the cabinet doors under your kitchen and bathroom sinks so warm air can circulate around the plumbing.
Disconnect Hoses: If you haven't already, disconnect garden hoses from outdoor spigots and cover the faucet with a styrofoam cover or old rags, or buy a covering.
Power, Safety & Essentials
Charge Everything Now: Charge your phones, laptops, and portable chargers immediately.
Water Reserves: Fill your bathtub with water before the storm hits. This provides a crucial emergency water supply for flushing toilets if the power goes out, which is vital if you are on a well. Be sure to also fill large clean pots, pitchers, or bottles specifically for drinking water.
Alternative Cooking: Consider purchasing a portable propane or butane camp stove to warm food or boil water if the power goes out.
Important: Only use these devices in a garage with the door open or a well-ventilated area - not living areas- to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
Lighting: Gather flashlights and fresh batteries. Avoid using candles if possible to reduce fire risk.
Heat Safety: Never use a gas stove, grill, or generator indoors for heat. If you have a wood-burning fireplace, ensure you have dry wood ready, but keep the screen closed.
Exterior & Travel
Stay Off the Roads: Ice makes North Georgia roads, especially our hills and winding driveways, extremely dangerous. Stay off the roads until we thaw !
Park Smart: If you have large trees over your driveway, try to park your car in the garage or away from overhanging limbs that might snap under the weight of the ice.
Bring Pets In: If it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them. I know this is a no brainer.
I hope you all stay warm and cozy! Homeowners, call us if you need us! 678-794-1851 is Curran’s cell.
