🚧 Drainage Transformation in Progress! 💪 | Part 2

We’re putting in the work on this drainage project in Cu***ng, GA!

Our crew is hard at work excavating, grading, and installing a comprehensive drainage system designed to tackle heavy stormwater runoff and ongoing erosion issues.

Here’s what’s going into this project:

💧 When stormwater starts washing away your driveway, it’s time for a better drainage solution!

This property in Cu***ng, GA was experiencing serious erosion caused by heavy stormwater runoff. Water flowing off the concrete driveway was washing gravel away from the adjoining driveway and overwhelming an undersized dry creek bed farther downhill.

During heavy rain, the existing creek bed couldn’t contain the volume of water, allowing runoff to escape its banks and create additional erosion throughout the property.

Our team at Schmitt Waterproofing developed a comprehensive drainage solution designed to collect, redirect, and manage this runoff from the upper driveway all the way to the lower discharge area.

Managing runoff while keeping the solution looking natural. 💧

This Flowery Branch, GA property has a cart path that winds downhill through a wooded area to the homeowner’s dock. With that elevation change, heavy rainfall was creating concentrated runoff and erosion along the path.

We constructed a dry creek bed to provide that stormwater with a defined route downhill, helping stabilize the surrounding soil and protect the cart path while maintaining a natural look that fits the property.

Part 4 | Finished Product 💧🚜

From a torn-up hillside to a complete stormwater management system.

This project included approximately 20 feet of 18-inch culvert extension, 50 feet of 8-inch SDR-35 drainage pipe, 4 tandem loads of fill dirt, extensive grading and two new rip rap dry creek bed sections.

The dry creek beds were constructed over woven silt fabric, with a larger lower section designed to receive and disperse water as it exits the underground system.

The hillside was then finish graded with seed and straw installed throughout the disturbed areas to begin the restoration process.

A lot of this system will eventually disappear from view as the grass comes back — but underneath is a drainage system built to provide a controlled path for stormwater from one end of the property to the other.

Control the water. Give it a safe place to go.

Part 3 | Pipe Buried. Grade Set. 💧

With approximately 50 feet of 8-inch SDR-35 drainage pipe installed and buried, we could finish shaping the hillside and establish the final grade.

Proper drainage isn’t just about putting pipe underground. The surrounding grade has to work with the drainage system so surface runoff is directed where it’s supposed to go instead of creating new erosion or pooling problems.

From here, we’re ready for the final piece of the system — constructing the rip rap dry creek beds that will handle and disperse the water as it travels through the hillside.

Part 2 | Rebuilding the Hillside 🚜

With the 18-inch culvert installed, it was time to start putting this hillside back together.

This project ultimately required 4 tandem loads of fill dirt to restore the hillside and establish the grades needed to properly manage runoff.

We also installed approximately 50 feet of 8-inch SDR-35 solid drainage pipe to provide underground conveyance for a future channel drain.

At this stage, you can really start to see the drainage plan taking shape — underground conveyance, controlled grading and a defined path for water to safely travel through the property.

Next up: burying the 8-inch line and dialing in the final grade.

Part 1 | Building the Underground Drainage System 💧

This hillside drainage project started with extending the existing stormwater system using approximately 20 feet of 18-inch culvert.

The culvert was excavated, properly bedded and installed before beginning the process of rebuilding the hillside over the new drainage path. We also started bringing in fill dirt to restore the grade and provide proper cover over the new pipe.

When you’re dealing with this volume of stormwater, having the right pipe size, proper installation and a controlled discharge point are critical.

Next up: rebuilding the hillside and installing the additional drainage infrastructure.

💧 Another drainage project complete!

For this project, we installed approximately 120 feet of solid drainage pipe to properly collect and redirect water away from the problem area. Once the new system was installed and backfilled, we restored the areas disturbed during trenching to leave the yard looking clean and finished.

A good drainage system isn’t just about collecting water — it’s about getting it somewhere it can safely discharge. 💧

On this project, we’re installing approximately 120 feet of solid 4-inch SDR-35 pipe through the yard. The new system will pick up an existing 4-inch drainage line along with the pool overflow and provide a solid, properly routed discharge to the fence line.

We also used a sod cutter through the work area so we can preserve as much of the existing lawn as possible and minimize the impact once everything is backfilled.

This is the first part of the project — stay tuned for the finished result!
