Today, we proudly mark five years of LF Bioenergy—a milestone that reflects vision, disciplined ex*****on, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to advancing agriculture’s role in America’s energy future.

What began as a bold vision has become a leading platform transforming dairy waste into renewable natural gas, creating long-term value for farmers and rural communities, and helping shape the future of our energy system.

This achievement is a testament to the leadership of our co-founders, Lee Laviolette, CEO, and Cyn French, EVP of Corporate Affairs, whose shared vision and unwavering commitment have helped position LF Bioenergy as a trusted partner in building practical, scalable sustainability solutions.

Meet Matt Stearns, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗙𝟭, one of the people behind the work at LF Bioenergy (LF). For Matt, joining LF was about more than a job. It was a chance to come home to Louisville, work near the family and community that mean everything to him and be part of something that makes a real difference. He was drawn to LF by 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀, and 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, and its excitement about building something that helps both the environment and the local community—including support for local organizations and businesses in the area. That combination of purpose and people made LF stand out immediately.

Matt’s background in aluminum plants in Indiana and New York made LF’s operating environment feel like a natural fit, but what he found here was different. At LF, 𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲. He is trusted with ownership of the site, encouraged to help shape operational excellence, and treated as more than just a number. That sense of ownership has helped him grow in confidence—particularly in electrical work, vendor coordination, and collaboration across the team.

Matt is proud of the 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 it takes to keep a site running well. “𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳-𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘧𝘧. ” Success depends on 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗙 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺 every day—from maintaining the right water consistency to refining proven practices that protect digester performance. He has seen meaningful progress through hands-on innovation, including equipment upgrades and operational improvements that strengthen performance. For Matt, that fine-tuning is what 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲: a team that keeps learning, keeps improving, and “has 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳’𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬.”

At his core, Matt values family, friends, and community. He grew up surrounded by relatives, with families looking out for one another and spending time together whenever they could. Today, that same spirit still guides him. He values working with close friends, then heading home to his wife and kids—"𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦.” That same pride shapes how he leads tours at LF1, engaging visitors and sharing what LF does with confidence. 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 when people are heard, trusted, and connected to a greater purpose, “𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.”

“A Clean Fuel Standard could be a game changer for New York—creating new opportunities for dairy farmers, strengthening rural communities, and advancing the state’s clean transportation future. It was an honor to speak with Governor Hochul this week about the urgent need for this policy and what it would mean for farmers across the state. A Clean Fuel Standard would send a strong signal to investors, help build a stable market for renewable natural gas, and recognize the important role dairy farmers can play in reducing methane emissions and supporting New York’s clean energy goals. Just as importantly, it would help ensure rural communities share in the economic benefits of New York’s clean energy future,” said Cyn French, EVP of Corporate Affairs at LF Bioenergy.

We kicked things off with 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 at the Biogas Golf Classic, where we even took home the longest putt, and continued the week with 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 with peers across the industry. It was a privilege to 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘀 𝗥𝗢𝗜 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸, be a 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 on the live podcast during the Women in Biogas Luncheon, and 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹. When safety has to be right the first time, Dustin Long leads from the front. He’s climbed the Colorado Mt. Elbert, “14er,” and he’s worked 300 feet in the air as a wind technician—two experiences that demand the same thing: 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗲𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸. Today, as a Lead Plant Operator at LF Bioenergy (LF), he’s helping raise the bar for dairy renewable natural gas (RNG) operations with that same field-tested mindset.

Growing up, Dustin was fortunate to be around the building blocks of a successful heavy-industry career, including farm and tractor-trailer operations. Seeing the day-to-day management of these businesses helped him build a strong foundation in maintenance ex*****on and operational discipline early on. By 16, he was paying his own bills and performing maintenance on his first car.

After college, Dustin entered heavy industry full time and later became a wind technician. “I think a lot about my time as a wind technician. When you’re 300 feet up in the air, the fire department isn’t coming to help you, and you must have the right equipment. Safety and efficiency became crucial in that experience, and it prepared me for my role with LF.”

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 helped Dustin determine his future with LF Bioenergy. He is working toward becoming an OSHA-certified Occupational Health and Safety Professional, driven by a passion for making the workplace—and the world—safer.

Dustin also serves as a Trustee and board member at his church, where he has driven safety initiatives to make it more welcoming for the community. In his spare time, he also enjoys hiking. In 2020, he hiked Colorado’s Mt. Elbert. That climb reinforced the same principles he brings to the LF plant every day: plan ahead, check your gear, watch the conditions, and stay steady when the work gets demanding.

LF Bioenergy (LF) was pleased to participate in the 2026 hashtag Summit, which convened stakeholders from across the network of renewable energy leaders, policymakers, regulators, market operators, utilities, and innovators for substantive discussions on the energy industry’s most pressing priorities.

David Schummer, LF’s Operations Engineer and a New York resident, shared: “It was insightful to attend the Summit. In a sense, it was also reaffirming that across every renewable energy industry and job role we all face the same issues: affordability, reliability, and the need to move forward past adversity. I value the opportunity to have participated.”

Cyn French, a LF Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs, participated as a panelist emphasizing to New York leaders that policy certainty is a critical force multiplier. Her key points included:
· Policy certainty unlocks private capital and accelerates deployment.
· A New York Clean Fuel Standard (CFS) can be performance-based, transparent, and market-driven—providing a state-led framework grounded in verifiable data and public trust.
· Renewable natural gas (RNG) can deliver measurable methane reductions through monitoring, data, and verification.
· A well-designed CFS can create pathways for New York developers, investors, and farmers—while protecting consumers through appropriate safeguards.
· Scaling over the next five years aligns with NY’s dairy farmers, the renewable energy industry, rural economic growth and the state’s climate and energy goals.
