The Federal Aviation Administration just quietly rolled out something most people in this industry aren’t paying attention to—but should be.

The Federal Aviation Administration DISCOVER ( ) Tool (https://lnkd.in/gF96SuqA) is a major step toward real-time visibility, accountability, and integration of drone operations into the National Airspace System. This isn’t another “nice to have” platform. This is infrastructure.

The DISCOVER system is designed to pull together data from:
• Remote ID
• LAANC authorizations
• Drone registrations and waivers
…into a single operational picture for safety, compliance, and enforcement.

Let’s be clear what this means:
➡️ The days of anonymous drone operations are over
➡️ Regulatory oversight is becoming data-driven and scalable
➡️ Public safety, security, and airspace coordination just leveled up

For those of us building real-world drone programs—especially in public safety, infrastructure, and enterprise—this is exactly where the industry has been heading.

Not hype.
Not speculation.

This is how you scale operations safely and integrate drones into critical environments.

The gap isn’t regulation anymore. The gap is competency. Learn more about DISCVR here: https://www.faa.gov/uas/public_safety_gov/discvr_tool

Over the past months, our very own Michael Hill has been serving as an Adjunct Professor of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems with Dallas College —while simultaneously building real-world training programs through Uncrewed Aerospace.

Let’s be honest:

The industry doesn’t have a certification problem—it has a competency problem. Too many pilots are being pulled into “fast-track” programs designed to help them pass a test—not operate in real environments.

At Uncrewed Aerospace, we don’t train for checkboxes. We train for missions.

Our programs are built around real-world operations—public safety response, infrastructure, and field deployment—where decisions, not multiple-choice answers, determine outcomes.

We’re now in the final stages of expanding this model into 2 other North Texas institutions—continuing to scale what should have been from the start.

The gap is clear: organizations don’t need more certified pilots—they need operators who can actually perform.

If you're a municipality, public safety agency, or organization looking to build or expand a drone program that works in the real world—not just on paper—let’s connect.

🚀 Dream Big. Fly High.

This Friday, Uncrewed Aerospace is honored to showcase drone technology at the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center’s Black History Month event alongside our friend Gigi Coleman, the great niece of aviation pioneer .

Bessie Coleman broke barriers in aviation history — and Gigi continues that legacy by inspiring the next generation of aviators, innovators, and STEM leaders.

We’ll be demonstrating real-world drone technology and sharing how today’s students can turn aviation curiosity into career pathways.

📅 February 20–21
⏰ 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
📍 National Aviation Education Center – Dallas, TX
🎟 Free Entry- https://flynaec.org/event/bhm26/

Come out, bring the family, and be part of a powerful celebration of aviation history and the future of flight.

Our founder holds multiple industry-recognized credentials (FAA, FEMA, OSHA, NIST, and others), we get the same question every week:

“What do I really need to get started in a drone career?”

Too many people entering the drone space are being misled by aggressive marketing that claims you can “launch your drone career” by attending one of our boot camps and earning our proprietary certification.

Let’s be clear: that’s not how this industry works—and it never has. Yet certain training companies continue selling the same snake oil, promising employability with their certifications, leaving new pilots in debt after paying for this training that leads to no real job opportunities.

We wrote this blog to help new pilots cut through the hype and understand what actually matters if you’re serious about building a real career in uncrewed aviation:

Last week marked Uncrewed Aerospace’s final FAA Part 107 Prep corporate training class of 2025—and it went out strong.

This 3-day program, sponsored by Lennox brought together HVAC professionals who were engaged, curious, and ready to apply drone technology in real-world operations.

As you can see from their faces, the energy was high, the conversations were practical, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

This week also marks our final STEM Drone Camp of the year, closing out a busy and rewarding season of training across both professional and education pathways.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, leaned in, and made both of these programs a success.

We’re already planning ahead. 📅 Our 2026 class schedule will be released soon.

As the year comes in for a landing, we want to take a moment to say thank you.

To our partners, educators, public safety professionals, municipalities, and innovators — your trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to doing this the right way is what continues to move forward.

2025 was about building foundations: safety, training, workforce development, and real-world implementation. We’re grateful for every conversation, every classroom, every student, and every mission that helped shape what comes next for us here at Uncrewed Aerospace.

We’re heading into the new year energized and excited. Early 2026 will bring several major announcements that reflect the work we have been doing behind the scenes — and we look forward to sharing what we’ve been building.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Uncrewed Aerospace

Here’s to a safe, innovative, and impactful year ahead.

For clarity- All existing DJI drone models that received FCC authorization prior to the recent ban are still legal to use and can be purchased from existing retailer stock in the US.

There is no ban on owning or flying current models like the DJI Mini 4 Pro or DJI Mavic 3 Pro.

The recent FCC decision, effective December 23, 2025, primarily impacts the future import and sale of new and unapproved DJI drone models and components. It is a forward-looking restriction, not a retroactive one on existing products.

The following are examples of currently available DJI drones that were FCC-approved before the ban and can still be legally purchased and flown in the US:

DJI Mini Series: This includes popular models such as the DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Mini 3 Pro, DJI Mini 3, DJI Mini 4K, and DJI Mini 2 SE. The Mini drones weighing under 250g (like the Mini 4 Pro with a standard battery) do not require FAA registration for recreational use, which many users find convenient.

DJI Air Series: Models like the DJI Air 3 and DJI Air 2S are available and unaffected.

DJI Mavic Series: The DJI Mavic 3 Pro, DJI Mavic 3 Classic, and DJI Mavic 3 are all still legal to purchase and operate.

DJI Avata Series: The DJI Avata 2 and original DJI Avata FPV drones remain legal for sale from existing stock.

DJI Phantom and Inspire Series: Older models, such as the DJI Phantom 4 Pro and DJI Inspire 3, also remain legal to use and purchase from current inventory.

Key Takeaways for US Users:

Ownership and Use: If you already own a DJI drone, you can continue to use it, register it with the FAA (if required based on weight and use), and operate it under existing FAA rules. There will be no remote disabling or grounding of existing devices.

Purchasing: Retailers can continue to sell their existing stock of previously FCC-authorized DJI models. However, as inventory depletes and no new models can be imported (unless specifically exempted), availability may decrease over time.

Future Models: New, unreleased DJI drones or major new components will not receive the necessary FCC authorization for import and sale in the US, effectively blocking their entry into the market unless cleared by national security agencies.

As we move forward as an industry. Our hope is that our current administration can find an effective way to ensure that US drone manufacturers are offering a affordable alternative to a DJI drone.
