Blackland Prairie specializes in site sensitive designs geared toward meeting client needs while integrating the architecture of the home into the landscaped environment. We strive to create an atmosphere that is both unique and individualized. You will see from our portfolio that we take great care not to recycle the same elements or force formula ideas into spaces where they do not work. Our phi

losophy is that the site coupled with the client’s personality will generate the design. Design principles are timeless and founded on words such as proportion, scale and form. The application of these principles may yield a project that is classical, modern or anywhere in between, yet when a design is done right these principles will be apparent. Lastly, Blackland Prairie is passionate about our work. We want to inspire. We want to elevate. We are not part of a disposable society and cheap fixes are not our goal. We prefer a master plan with phased work timetables over a single project that has to cut corners to finish the job. As an aside, the climate and soil conditions of Texas can be harsh. Plants have to be able to cope with heavy rains, dry spells, caliche, sand and thick clay. The rich dark clay soils of North Texas are geologically named the Blackland Prairie. It has obviously inspired us and for this reason, native plants are always considered for design use. We are fortunate to have a stunningly beautiful selection of shade trees, understory trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers indigenous to the area. These same plants have lower mortality rate, lower water usage and lower maintenance cost. Blackland Prairie would like to keep the dialogue open on the subject of incorporating native plants.
