London’s first intelligent wind and solar microgrid has been approved for London Design and Engineering UTC in the Royal Docks.

Five Hover turbines will work alongside the college’s existing solar array and battery storage, with our Microgrid Management System running them as one and balancing generation, storage and demand in real time. The building is expected to make around 81% of its own electricity.

This retrofit project is the start of something much bigger for the UK and is the first of several projects we are bringing forward across the Royal Docks.

Final approval from the Department for Education is still to come, and we are delighted to be on our way.
