The Importance of Water
When we get up in the morning, one of the first things we do (or should do) is drink a glass of water. It’s an essential component of life. Most of us, in industrialized societies, take it for granted. We walk to the sink, turn on the faucet, and clean water flows instantaneously. We wash our clothes, our vegetables, bathe our children, and water our lawns without thinking twice about where the water comes from or the safety of using it.
I recently went on a trip to Columbus, Ohio with my colleagues from Onyx Power and Gas where we met with our current partners and other associates of the Ohio Rural Water Authority (ORWA). It was a conference where the ORWA discussed the existing issues they had with the surface and groundwater and to figure out solutions to clean and treat the water from algae, bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants. It was eye opening. These engineers, scientists, field workers, and technicians of these water treatment facilities have an enormous responsibility to the local communities to provide clean water. I realized the significant importance and role that the ORWA play in the community. Hospitals, schools, churches, government agencies, businesses, and families are all tremendously impacted by the work of the members of the ORWA so they don’t get sick from the water they drink and use. If you’ve ever heard the expression, “Not all heroes wear capes”, it definitely applies to the members of the ORWA.
Outside of human skill set, clean water is achieved through good filtration equipment and technology. Our role at Onyx Power and Gas helped the decision makers of the ORWA to manage their energy risk and save them precious dollars through our electricity and natural gas procurement strategies when it mattered most. Combined, we’ve saved them approximately $1.2 million which was used to fund their projects and acquire new equipment to provide clean water to their families and local communities.
Onyx Power and Gas stands by our commitment in “Making Energy Make a Difference” for businesses, non-profits, and local government agencies. Let me know what I can do for you and your organization.
