Already a warning near Sydney, but keep an eye on the cell south of Greenville. Hard to get a great look at it with the local NWS radar out of commission, but it looks like this one may be showing some signs of rotation. This is getting to the edge of the Indy radar’s range, so lots of uncertainty, but certainly a strong cell heading toward northern Montgomery and southern Miami counties

Tornado warning NW of Crawfordsville, IN. Lots of energy in some of these storms with cloud tops north of 45k ft.

Stay weather aware tonight as these storms move into western Ohio. I suspect that areas south of I-70 will primarily be at risk for high winds, hail, and localized flooding since the atmosphere will have some chance to cool a bit as we lose daylight. Still, there’s plenty of heat hanging around and sufficient CAPE / shear to have all severe threats potentially on the table.

Storms rolled in too late last night and too early today to make much use of any instability. Nothing but a sloppy mess today. Definitely will be interesting to see the final rain totals for the area once the last of this rain rolls through.

It’s been a while since I got back to chasing, but I decided to take a drive out to Chillicothe this morning. Tracked a developing cell up to Lancaster where I had to pull back just as a tornado warning was issued. There are some places I don’t take the risk to solo chase in. Hills, winding roads, and dense tree cover can get real sketchy in that part of the state while you’re trying to multitask radar analysis, route planning, and, of course, focusing on the actual driving. Better to come back and chase another day. With the way this year is starting, it looks like this could be one heck of an exciting storm season! Game on!
