Joseph Ferdelman is retiring from HEAPY after nearly four decades of service.

Joe’s career has been woven into the fabric of HEAPY. From his early days as a co op to roles including design engineer, Healthcare Practice Director, Chief Strategy Officer, and, most recently, National Director of Business Development for the West and South Regions, Joe has helped shape who we are and how we show up for our clients and communities.

His leadership has always centered on listening first, building strong relationships, and inspiring teams to think bigger. The culture he helped cultivate will continue to influence HEAPY long after his retirement.

As he enters this next chapter, Joe looks forward to time with family and friends, traveling, cycling, hiking, and continuing his volunteer work supporting disaster relief efforts.

Please join us in celebrating Joe’s remarkable career and the lasting impact he has made across our organization.

Early design decisions have the biggest impact—especially on carbon.

Whole Life Carbon Assessment gives project teams clear insight from day one, when systems and materials can still be adjusted efficiently. By looking at both operational (energy + water) and embodied (materials, construction, end-of-life) emissions, teams can make smarter, defensible choices without slowing the design process.

🌱 Strengthening a 30‑Year Commitment to High‑Performance Healthcare

Proud to share that Kettering Health has renewed its Intelligent Building Management agreement with HEAPY — extending a partnership focused on resilient, efficient, and patient‑centered facilities.

Together, we’ve delivered millions in avoided utility and capital costs while improving system reliability across the health system. This renewal reinforces our shared commitment to smarter operations and healthier environments for the communities Kettering Health serves.

Onward to the next chapter of impact.

🎉 New Year, New Vision at HEAPY

2026 isn’t just another year on the calendar: it’s a turning point for how we design, build, and think about the future of the built environment.

Architects are shaping the spaces that shape our world, and one thing is becoming unmistakably clear: Whole Life Carbon can’t wait. The earlier it enters the conversation, the more value it delivers to clients, to project performance, and to long‑term design strategy.

That’s why we’re kicking off the year with a fresh perspective! HEAPY’s Innovation Leader, Michael Senger, PE, just released a short video breaking down why Whole Life Carbon Assessment is quickly becoming a competitive advantage for forward‑thinking design teams.

✈️ Honoring Wright Brothers Day at Wright Brothers Airport

HEAPY celebrates the visionaries who took flight in 1903 and changed the world forever. At HEAPY, we’re proud to carry that spirit of innovation forward with our work at Wright Brothers Airport.

Our team is designing the Al Jones Hangar, delivering MEPT solutions that keep aviation moving:

• Smart heating and ventilation to hold 50–55°F in winter and provide efficient summer airflow
• Modern HVAC systems for offices and meeting spaces across two floors
• Precision lighting design inside and outside the hangar, aligned with code and airport standards

From Kitty Hawk to Dayton, aviation has always been about pushing boundaries. We’re excited to help shape the next chapter with sustainable, efficient engineering that keeps the legacy alive.

🚀 Innovation took off with the Wright Brothers. At HEAPY, we’re making sure it keeps soaring.
