Investing in people and education is part of who we are. Our Director of Engineering, now known around the office as “Professor” Popp, recently joined a graduate-level class at Wayne State to talk about real-world materials, innovation, and the future of infrastructure.

Big equipment means big blind spots, and at Levy, we’re always looking for new ways to keep our teammates safe.

Our sites already use designated walkways, radio communication, and other safety practices to reduce person/equipment interaction. Now, we’re excited to deploy new technology that can detect pedestrians and automatically stop the machine when needed.

As shown in this video, innovation is helping create safer worksites for everyone.

Technology that helps our operators work safely is something we will always support.

National Sunscreen Day is a reminder that prevention is at the core of everything we do at Levy.

Our safety approach is built on identifying exposures early, implementing effective controls, and preventing serious outcomes before they occur.

So far in 2026, Levy employees have completed and entered more than 10,000 safety observations into our safety system. This reinforces our commitment to proactively identifying hazards and addressing risks before incidents occur.

See something. Say something. Do something.

That same proactive mindset applies to sun and heat exposure for employees working outdoors every day:
☀️ Utilize shaded areas when available
⏱ Take breaks, drink water and monitor heat and UV exposure
🧢 Wear hats, protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen

Safety is not only about preventing incidents today, but also about protecting the long-term health and wellbeing of our people for the future.

Small preventative actions matter.

American Aggregates of Michigan - Ray Road: Building the Foundations of Our Community

At the corner of Ray Road and M-24 in Oxford, Michigan, American Aggregates of Michigan plays a quiet but essential role in shaping the infrastructure that surrounds us every day.

Reuben Maxbauer of the Edw. C. Levy Co. describes the operation simply: “Here we are mining sand and gravel for the construction industry.” Once processed, these materials become the foundation for roads, bridges, driveways, concrete, asphalt, and building foundations across the region.

From local neighborhoods to major highways, the impact is far-reaching. “Our materials are the building block of everything we live in,” Reuben explains. “Whether it’s your basement foundation, your street, or the schools and hospitals around you, our materials are in it.”

The site has been operating in Oxford since the 1990s, continuing a long local legacy tied to what many call the “gravel capital of the world.” Reuben notes that millions of tons of aggregate have come from operations like this, supporting major infrastructure projects throughout Michigan and beyond, including interstates such as I-75, I-96, and I-94, as well as large venues like Little Caesars Arena.

On peak days, the site sees around 100 trucks moving in and out, depending on weather and construction demand. Around 20 employees keep operations running safely and efficiently, often working extended hours during high-demand construction seasons. Despite its scale, Reuben emphasizes the company’s community connection. “We’re really proud to be operating here,” he says. “We think Oxford is the gold standard, and we love showing people what we do.”

That pride shows in their outreach efforts, including educational tours for schools, families, and community groups. Hundreds of visitors have come through to learn how raw materials are transformed into essential building products. “We think what we do is the coolest thing in the world,” Reuben adds. “We’re still playing in the sandbox every day, just with bigger trucks.”

The operation also partners closely with local organizations such as Oxford Township Parks & Recreation, providing materials for ball fields, parking lots, and community projects. These collaborations help ensure that local spaces remain strong, safe, and functional.

As Reuben puts it, “We’re civic-minded, community-focused, and proud to be part of what makes Oxford special.”

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

At Levy, we reflect on the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and community, we do so in remembrance of those who made it possible.

Strong teams start with strong families.

On the International Day of Families, we’re proud to celebrate the people who stand behind every Levy team member. Each year, Levy operations around the world host family events as a way to say thank you to the incredible families who support our colleagues every day.

These gatherings are a chance to connect, share with loved ones, and show appreciation for the support systems that make our work possible.

To all the families who help our teams thrive, thank you for being part of the Levy story.

Field trips aren’t just for kids!

On Wednesday, 29 enthusiastic adults, mostly seniors, were treated to a thrilling behind-the-berms tour of the Edward C. Levy Co. mining operation on Ray Rd. Oxford Township Parks and Recreation arranged the tour, which Casey Smith, Levy's laboratory operations manager, guided.

Wearing hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vests and personal floatation devices, the adventurous folks climbed aboard a floating clamshell dredge named “Centennial.”

Built in 2018 – the year Levy celebrated its 100th anniversary – the dredge weighs 648 tons and is approximately 70 feet wide, 110 feet long and 70 feet tall. From high above the water, the visitors watched the clamshell extract massive loads of material. Every time it’s raised, the clamshell brings approximately 25 tons of material with it.

A huge “thank you” to the fine folks at Levy for allowing folks to tour their impressive operation. It’s always fun! Photos by C.J. Carnacchio.

Please join us in celebrating the newest graduates of Levy Leadership!

Twenty-one colleagues have successfully completed our weeklong intensive training program and are ready to help lead their operations safely and effectively using the skills they’ve developed along the way. Throughout the program, participants learned from university professors and Levy subject matter experts, gaining valuable insights they can apply every day in the field.

These new leaders represent operations across Colorado, Mississippi, Michigan, Kentucky, and West Virginia, spanning a wide range of our business, from steel mill services and scrap management to asphalt paving, asphalt production, aggregate production, and environmental services.

We’re confident these graduates are equipped to reach new heights, and we look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow and lead across our organization.

Congratulations to our newest Levy leaders!

Most of our operations don’t sleep, and neither do the people who make them possible.

This National Third Shift Workers Day, we’re proud to recognize and celebrate our third shift teammates across Levy locations. You are the night owls who keep everything moving while the rest of the world rests.

Because of your dedication, operations keep running, equipment keeps humming, and our customers’ needs are always met, around the clock.

Your commitment, reliability, and hard work don’t go unnoticed. Today, and every day, we tip our hard hats to you.

It can’t be a coincidence that Mother’s Day and National Clean Your Room Day fell on the same day, after all, we’ve all heard those words at some point!

We’re celebrating all the incredible mothers - by birth, by choice, or by love - who raised us, guided us, supported us, and yes, taught us the importance of keeping things clean and in order.

We’re especially grateful for the amazing moms who are part of the Levy team and community. Your leadership, care, strength, and example help shape who we are every day.

While we appreciate you year-round, today we take it one step further and celebrate you even higher.

Happy Mother’s Day and thank you for everything you do.
