we decided 4= 2x12 should do the trick. you can see the new straight beam that is meant to hold your ceiling joist up compare to the old where the ceiling was dropping horribly.

I do not have words for this framing job someone did. In this video you will see a level string line where the bottom of the beam is suppose to be. Notice the 3in dip to the center.... Its hard to see in the video but this is a single 2x8 with a 2x4 screwed to the back of it. This "beam" is suppose to hold an almost 16ft by 25ft ceiling where the ceiling joist will meet in the center.

This is why we do not paint latex over oil base paint, not even latex primer unless is specifically designed for it and still then I don't like to. Latex paint will stick to oil base primer but its to much work to get it to stick to oil base paint. If you are unsure which one it is you can test a spot very easily to determine if its oil base paint or latex. Take a small cotton pad and put denatured alcohol on it and rub a small spot. If the paint softens or rubs off its most likely latex. If paint doesn't come off, it is more than likely oil base. Unfortunately we were rolling along so good this day it took a minute for us to go back and realize what was going on. Latex paint over unprepped oil base paint!! So a lot of sanding was done on this job.
