Today we'd like to officially congratulate our newest Professional Engineer: Justin Downey, of our Decatur, Georgia office.

Becoming a PE represents a key professional milestone in an engineer’s career, requiring extensive professional experience, technical knowledge, and successful completion of the PE exam.

We’re pleased to recognize Justin for reaching this achievement and look forward to his continued contributions to our team and our projects.

As we continue highlighting historic projects in recognition of America’s 250th, we’re looking back at Abrams Fixtures in Atlanta.

The Abrams company was founded in the 1920s by Alfred R. Abrams, and later became involved in the construction of military bases during WWII. After the war, the company expanded into retail fixture manufacturing, eventually moving its operations to this historic Atlanta industrial complex.

With buildings also dating back to 1920, the property has played a role in Atlanta’s commercial and industrial history for more than a century. In 2023, Abrams Fixtures was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

We were pleased to contribute structural engineering services to the rehabilitation of this remarkable piece of Atlanta history, and we thank our clients Braden Fellman Group and Pimsler Hoss Architects, Inc. for involving us in the project.

Fun to see East Atlanta Village getting some well-deserved attention!

We’re especially glad to see Southern Feed Store highlighted in this Urbanize Atlanta article. Our team provided structural engineering for the renovation of this local gathering spot, helping give new life to an existing building and contributing to the continued evolution of EAV. Revisiting the award-winning renovation of the Ga***rd Palms Old Hickory Steakhouse in Kissimmee, Florida, recognized by AIA Atlanta (American Institute of Architects) in 2024.

Our structural design was an integral contribution to the key areas that brought this new restaurant design to life, specifically the steel framing for expanded walkways and seating areas, more expansive wall openings and open floor plans, and the thoughtfully designed exposition kitchen. Congratulations again to our client Workshop and the entire project team on this recognition.

Another new library taking shape!

Our team provided structural engineering services for this new 12,000-square-foot public library, featuring light-framed wood construction with exposed heavy timber framing at the exterior decks and porches. The structural design was carefully coordinated with large storefront windows, stone veneer, and exposed timber elements that help define the building’s character.

We enjoyed working with TSW Design to develop an efficient structural system that supports both the library’s functional needs and architectural vision.

We enjoyed providing structural engineering for The Westwood on Ralph David Abernathy, a local spot designed with all the character of a classic dive.
