Employee Spotlight: Amber Schmitt, General Manager of Occupational Health

This week is National EMS Week - and Amber's story is exactly the kind the theme "Improving Outcomes, Together" was built around.

Amber leads OnPoint's occupational health and nursing division. Her team puts nurses directly on industrial job sites - not in an off-site clinic, not on call, but present and engaged before anything goes wrong.

A recent article highlighted what that presence looks like in practice. During an outage at a key power generation facility within a major multi-state utility client's network, two OnPoint nurses - Deveny and Rachel - responded to a contractor who had fallen and was bleeding severely from a leg injury. They cut away his clothing to assess the wound, applied a pressure dressing from their jump bag, and kept him alert and stable until EMTs arrived. Doctors later said the nurses' actions prevented severe bleeding that could have led to death within minutes.

"I cannot speak highly enough of the quick thinking and the actions that Deveny and Rachel performed," said the plant's Loss Control Director.

That outcome wasn't luck. It was the result of trained, prepared professionals who were already on-site when it mattered.

That's what Amber has built. And it's what "Improving Outcomes, Together" looks like in the field.

Employee Spotlight: Ross Luko, Operations Manager

Ross leads site safety operations across power generation and renewable energy projects, and his perspective on what actually makes a job site safe is worth hearing.

"Effective site safety is foundational to maintaining schedule, controlling costs, and ensuring successful ex*****on. Our approach is centered on proactive engagement, field presence, and practical risk management that aligns with real-world construction and outage conditions."

That last part - real-world conditions - is the key. On active sites, Ross and his team routinely catch issues during pre-task planning and early mobilization that most people wouldn't flag until something went wrong: gaps in fall protection, incomplete access controls, evolving work scopes that introduce new risk.

"Rather than functioning strictly as enforcement, our teams operate as advisors - helping align site ex*****on with regulatory requirements while maintaining productivity."

It's a different mindset than the traditional safety inspector role. And it's the reason our clients see compliance as a resource, not a constraint.

We’re hiring: Mechanic | Baytown, TX

If you know your way around diesel engines and take pride in keeping equipment running safely and efficiently, this could be a great fit.

At OnPoint, our work supports critical operations—and that starts with dependable, skilled mechanics behind the scenes.

What we’re looking for:

Minimum 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic
Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and systems
Experience with Cummins (6.7, 5.9, 24 valve), Caterpillar (C7, 3126), and Navistar (T444E, DT466) engines preferred
Familiarity with air and hydraulic braking systems
Experience working on school buses is a plus

Requirements:

Must have your own tools
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
CDL with P endorsement preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Valid TWIC card (or willingness to obtain)
High School diploma or GED
Ability to pass drug screening, safety-sensitive background checks, and a pre-employment physical

This is a hands-on role for someone who values safety, reliability, and doing the job right the first time.
