🇺🇸💔 Mark Allen went into Afghanistan searching for a missing American soldier. One mission would change the next ten years of his life.
On July 8, 2009, Sgt. 1st Class Mark Allen was taking part in a mission to locate Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who had left his post days earlier and was later captured by the Taliban.

During the search, Allen’s unit came under heavy attack.

Mark was critically wounded in the head.

He survived, but his life would never be the same.

The traumatic brain injury left him unable to walk and unable to speak. He spent more than three years in hospitals before finally returning home to Georgia, where he required constant care. ❤️

Mark had volunteered for that deployment and had already dedicated more than two decades of his life to the Army and Georgia National Guard. He eventually retired as a Master Sergeant and received the Purple Heart for his wounds.

For ten years, he lived with the consequences of that single day.

On October 12, 2019, Mark passed away at only 46 years old from complications connected to the injuries he suffered in Afghanistan. 🕊️

Today, his name is memorialized by the Georgia National Guard as one of its fallen soldiers.

❤️ He survived the battlefield, but carried its wounds for the rest of his life.
