Amelia Osburn was recently awarded a Rocky Mountain IFT Educational Scholarship. Amelia is currently a Nutrition Science student at Colorado State University. Inspired by her mother’s career path, Amelia hopes to become a Registered Dietitian specializing in sports nutrition, helping athletes maximize their performance through evidence-based nutrition. She is already gaining valuable hands-on experience as a practicum student at CSU’s Moby Arena, where she supports student-athletes by preparing post-workout meals, snacks, and protein shakes. Amelia is hardworking, compassionate, and deeply intentional in all that she does. Her resilience, passion, and genuine commitment to making a positive impact on those around her make her a deserving recipient and promising future leader in the food and nutrition industry.

October is quickly approaching, and you won't want to miss our two biggest events of the year! Exhibitor registration fees for Suppliers' Night will increase next week, so don't wait to sign up. As always, attendees can register for free, but we'd love to know if you're going to join us 🎟️

At last week's event, Caitlin Clark, M.S., Ph.D. led a bean-to-bar chocolate class and discussed things like origin, variety, supply chain, fair trade, and processing. Caitlin also guided everyone through a tasting where they explored the unique flavors of different origins of chocolate. Then, the group got a tour of the dairy lab at CSU Spur and had a blast making their own pints of ice cream with a whole array of delicious mix-ins.

Anushuya Guragain was recently awarded a Rocky Mountain IFT Scholarship. After earning a Master’s degree in Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology, where she researched photodynamic treatments and inactivation kinetics of foodborne pathogens, Anushuya began her Ph.D. at Colorado State University. Her research addresses a critical gap in the food industry, as there are currently no microgreen-specific safety guidelines. Through the development of a microgreens safety system, she is investigating microbial risks throughout production and storage while evaluating decontamination strategies in controlled growing environments. Beyond the laboratory, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and community engagement through organizations such as YPARD Nepal, the Nepal Eco-Friendly Leo Club, NEFOSTA, and her leadership role at the 9th National Conference on Food Science and Technology. Anushuya is dedicated to advancing food safety through research and innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and policy development. Her determination, academic excellence, and passion for improving public health through food safety research make her a deserving recipient and a promising future leader in the food industry.

Our Morning Fresh Dairy Farm tour has been rescheduled for 9/4! During the tour, we will learn about local farming and its impact in the community, meet the cows that make your milk and pet an adorable calf, and enjoy samples of their flavored milk. After the 1-hour tour, we will head over to Fort Collins for happy hour (location is TBD).

Our friends at CSU Spur are treating us to a fun event this summer! We will start off with a chocolate tasting and a bean-to-bar presentation. Then, we will get a tour of the dairy lab to see how ice cream and cheese are processed. Everyone will have the opportunity to make their own pint of ice cream too! Tickets are $20 for members and $30 for non-members. Students can register for FREE!

RMIFT made a big impact at our last event! The team portioned out 1009 lbs. of pinto beans and packed them into meal boxes. This provided 835 meals to families in need. We are proud to support Food Bank of the Rockies and their mission to nourish people facing hunger in communities across Colorado and Wyoming 💚
