Quick tip that’s saved techs HOURS on service calls:
When diagnosing a no-cool call on a heat pump in cooling mode and the reversing valve seems stuck, try this before condemning the valve:

Shut power off to the outdoor unit
Swap the Y (compressor) and O/B (reversing valve) wires at the thermostat for 30–60 seconds
Restore correct wiring and power back up

The sudden loss of the 24V signal to the solenoid often “shocks” a sticky reversing valve piston loose — especially on older Rheem/Ruud or Trane/American Standard systems with wax-filled solenoids.
Works ~70% of the time on valves that energize in cooling (O terminal). Zero parts cost, takes under 5 minutes.
