Did you know that the claim “Colorado gets more than 300 days of sun a year” is actually a myth that dates back to the 1870s? It was started by railroad companies advertising Colorado’s beautiful climate to people on the east coast in hopes that they’d visit.

That said, we still get a ton of sun! Colorado actually has around 280 sunny days a year, putting us ahead of places like San Diego and Miami.

With all that sun, plus more UV radiation at elevation (UV radiation increases by about 4% for every 1,000 feet of elevation), Colorado is one of the most productive states for solar in the country.

This year has been a rollercoaster for policy related to renewable energy and we want to keep our community up to date with the latest developments. Thankfully, the Residential Clean Energy Credit is set to remain in effect through 2025. This means you can still get 30% of your entire project cost back when you transition to solar or add battery backup this year.

Congress has approved funding for the credit in 2025, but its future beyond that is uncertain. If, like us, you believe in a clean and independent energy future for our nation, we urge you to advocate for the continuation of this tax credit with your elected officials in congress. Also, if you’ve been considering solar or battery storage, now is a smart time to move forward while this incentive is in effect.

Elevated was the first renewable energy contractor to become a member of The Conservation Alliance, and we continue to support their work protecting North America’s wild places and outdoor spaces. We're excited to share some recent victories has been instrumental in securing:

* Protections for the Tongass National Forest, home to over 400 species of wildlife and more than 10% of all carbon that’s stored in forests through the US. 
* Protections for the Boundary Waters, the most visited wilderness area in the country.  
* Release of the Clean Water Act for Bristol Bay, protecting the world’s largest salmon run and the way of life for 31 federally recognized tribes.  
These three campaigns protect more than 9.5 million acres of land and water - definitely worth celebrating!

What is net metering, and how does it help offset the costs of switching to solar?

Essentially, net metering is a solar incentive that allows you (the homeowner) to sell excess power generated by your solar panels back to your utility company in exchange for credits. This means that if you’re generating more energy than necessary to power your home, your solar electricity is sent back to the grid, and the utility company pays for it. Not only are you saving on your utility bill by using your own electricity, but you’re also getting credits from the utility!

If you’ve followed our posts for the past few weeks, you’ve seen that the financial incentives for transitioning to solar are better than ever. With IRA rebates and tax credits, flexible financing options through loan programs like RENU, net metering, and the inherent savings from generating your own electricity, right now is a fantastic time to invest in solar for your home!

In 2023, Coloradans will be able to save even more money as additional perks become available through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)!

You may have already heard about the IRA’s incredible tax credits for electrifying your home. This includes a 30% tax credit for installing solar, installing battery storage, or upgrading to a smart panel like . Our Summit package combines all of these components, which means you’d receive the 30% tax credit on all three systems!

But if you qualify as a low or middle income household, you can also utilize upfront rebates to save even more money. For example, a single smart panel upgrade could save you up to $4,000 in rebates alone - that’s money taken off your bill right at the point of sale!

Transitioning to solar should be as easy and affordable as possible.

That’s why we offer financing through the Colorado Residential Energy Upgrade (RENU) loan initiative. RENU is a state-wide program that provides low-cost, long-term financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements to your home. This includes solar panels, battery storage, and EV charging, all of which we install at Elevated!

RENU offers:

*Loans up to $75,000.
*Low, fixed interest rates.
*Terms up to 20 years with no money down.
*Monthly principal and interest payments

SPOT is up and running again at Bluebird Backcountry!

For the third straight season, Elevated will be providing power to the base area. SPOT (Solar Powered Off-Grid Trailer) is able to operate in remote locations under extreme conditions, which makes it ideal for a backcountry setting. We can’t wait to be part of the fun again this season!

Opening day is December 29th - hope to see you there!
