This week’s is the Principal building (formerly known as The Bankers Life building) at 711 High Street in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

When construction was completed in 1939 by Neumann Brothers, the building was considered a modern marvel. The year it was finished, Architectural Record named it the Building of the Decade! The Principal building features Art Deco style with granite and limestone walls and exteriors.

In 2015, the campus-block-sized building underwent renovations to transform the interior into an open office environment. The renovations were completed in 2017 with original details preserved, including the limestone walls, brass detailing, Art Deco clocks, and the original auditorium.

Today, the building is home to Principal Financial Group World headquarters. Des Moines is full of historical architectural structures, and this one is no exception!

The Russell team had a productive pull-planning session with our subcontractors working on the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union Headquarters today. This collaborative scheduling process allows for enhanced coordination between trades so we can focus on our goal of beating schedules and delighting our clients!
