West Des Moines double bathroom remodel. We started with the hallway bathroom then finishing with the Master bathroom. Demoing both bathrooms, replacing drywall. And Installing new subfloor. We upgraded the bathroom exhaust fans. The hallway bathroom is a Sterling caulkless tub system. The master bathroom we removed the 1/2 wall and demolished the lower shower ceiling. The homeowners went with an Onyx shower system floor pan. With the shower walls being the Flexstone shower system. Really opening up the master bathroom to its full potential. Both bathrooms bringing peace of mind to the homeowners. From dark and gloomy to open and full of light.

The West Des Moines basement refinishing project is complete! We have already redone the second and main floors of this home. The basement was stuck in the '80s and was intended to be the last phase of construction. Unfortunately, the basement flooded when the single old sump pump failed during heavy rain. The homeowners knew they wanted to have it redone eventually…they just didn’t plan on it being this soon.
After cutting out the drywall two feet up, The homeowners had an epic basement waterproofing system installed on all the exterior walls, along with three new sump pumps with battery backups and alarms. With bluetooth capabilities and shows analytics to provide peace of mind so this never happens again. We brought this water-logged 1980s time capsule of a basement into modern times. We added a new bedroom and a large office, as both homeowners work from home. We also removed the brick fireplace and hideous, outdated wet bar, and gave them a very elegant bathroom to enjoy down there. Tell us what you think!

Was your sump pump overwhelmed last night or quit working entirely causing water damage in your home? Hansen Home Renovations can help install a new sump pump and we can go the next level by installing a battery backup system and water sensor alarms so you know immediately. We can also take a look at any damages that occurred. We are out on some water damage calls this morning. We will stop out as soon as we can.

As a friendly reminder to help with water prevention in your home. 1 Check all your gutters to make sure they arnt clogged. They need to be free-flowing. 2 check that all of your gutter downspouts are on and are diverting the water at least three feet away from your foundation. 3 checking to see what the ground looks like against your homes foundation. You should have a slight hill or grade away from the foundation. if the dirt, grass, cement, flower bed or rock bed is falling towards your foundation. That is just letting water come right in. So it can be as simple as starting with those 3 simple steps sometimes. And if anything doesn’t look right, calling in a professional can always bring peace of mind.

Water mitigation is a great first step for preventing water damage in your basement and saving you money.

Being on top of your home’s preventative maintenance steps on the exterior. Starting with the steps that are listed above can save you alot of headache when we get heavy rains like this.

We completed our Valley Junction bathroom remodels this week. Two different house’s. Two very different Bathrooms. One with tile work from floor to ceiling with a zero transtion shower entry with help from Vinsick Tile & Flooring Design. The other bathroom we gutted completely and started over to give it that modern look with all the right lighting. Including the hybrid shower system. It’s not tile but it’s a water tight shower system that provides the look of tile without the extra Cost. Most Valley Junction bathrooms are small and strictly business but that doesn’t mean you can’t do BIG things in your small bathroom. Give your bathroom the glow up it deserves!!!!

We hope you enjoy the before and afters for both of these projects. We have a soft spot for Valley Junction. We are truly lucky to continue to do projects in this historic neighborhood year after year.

Friendly reminder that if you’re not going to be home Friday, Saturday or Sunday. PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR MAIN WATER VALVE. Normally there is two main valve’s on the left and right side of your water meter!!!!! Secondly drain down your water supply by going to the lowest sink that you have in your home, normally in the basment. Turn on your hot and cold at the faucet and let the water run until it stops and leave the sink ON. If you dont have a sink in your basment. Disconnect your waterlines from your washer. If there’s a floor drain near or if not you’ll need a five gallon bucket. Normally there’s two to three gallons of water in your waterlines throughout your home. Let it drain into a five gallon bucket that way the water doesn’t have a chance to expand and burst your pipes. Remember 1: turn your main water supply OFF 2: drain down the waterlines and leave the faucets in the ON position.
3. OPEN the doors on bathroom vanities or kitchen sink cabinet to let the warm air in. It takes 5 minutes to prevent this terrible disaster from happening.

Chariton house fire project is complete. An unfortunate kitchen fire that was covered by insurance. From tragic to peace of mind. We started by gutting the main floor and starting over. We made some kitchen and bathroom layout change ups to take advantage of space. She now has a completely remodeled SAFE home. We love that for her and her 2 sons. We can’t forget about ole junie dog who was our stand in supervisor for the project. From unlivable to completely renovated. Thats what Hansen Home Renovations has been doing for 10 years.

The West Des Moines main floor remodel is complete. We opened up 5 load bearing walls and removed 2 non load bearing walls for starters. We removed the laundry sink pushed the wall back to open up the area to make room for the new mud room/ laundry room area. Cosmetic glow ups to both main floor bathrooms. With some new custom trim work around the new opened up area’s. Including board and batten in one of the bathrooms. The kids locker area is awesome for us as the homeowner decided she wanted to use her grandpas old church pew. So we cut it in half and put it back together to make it fit in that area. As well as all new lighting on the main floor, new kitchen appliances and updating the living room trim work. On to the basement we opened up 2 load bearing walls and moved 2 non load bearing walls to create the new gym. We removed the awkward platform that was at the bottom of their basement stairs. You had to step down into the basement living room and storage room it was a tripping hazard. We love the etched gold bathroom faucets, mirrors, and vanity lights along side all the new black door hardware. Brand new etched gold kitchen appliances. The homeowners 3 year old daughter called us her worker men. she put a show on for us whenever she could. Her mother knew exactly what she wanted and nailed it. What do all of you think ???
