We completed our Valley Junction bathroom remodels this week. Two different house’s. Two very different Bathrooms. One with tile work from floor to ceiling with a zero transtion shower entry with help from Vinsick Tile & Flooring Design. The other bathroom we gutted completely and started over to give it that modern look with all the right lighting. Including the hybrid shower system. It’s not tile but it’s a water tight shower system that provides the look of tile without the extra Cost. Most Valley Junction bathrooms are small and strictly business but that doesn’t mean you can’t do BIG things in your small bathroom. Give your bathroom the glow up it deserves!!!!

We hope you enjoy the before and afters for both of these projects. We have a soft spot for Valley Junction. We are truly lucky to continue to do projects in this historic neighborhood year after year.

Friendly reminder that if you’re not going to be home Friday, Saturday or Sunday. PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR MAIN WATER VALVE. Normally there is two main valve’s on the left and right side of your water meter!!!!! Secondly drain down your water supply by going to the lowest sink that you have in your home, normally in the basment. Turn on your hot and cold at the faucet and let the water run until it stops and leave the sink ON. If you dont have a sink in your basment. Disconnect your waterlines from your washer. If there’s a floor drain near or if not you’ll need a five gallon bucket. Normally there’s two to three gallons of water in your waterlines throughout your home. Let it drain into a five gallon bucket that way the water doesn’t have a chance to expand and burst your pipes. Remember 1: turn your main water supply OFF 2: drain down the waterlines and leave the faucets in the ON position.
3. OPEN the doors on bathroom vanities or kitchen sink cabinet to let the warm air in. It takes 5 minutes to prevent this terrible disaster from happening.

HHR Hansen Home Renovations can do emergency waterline repairs. But we want you to have the right information.
That way you can have peace of mind this weekend if you’re away from home.

And if you have an emergency situation like a burst waterline, follow the same steps to get it under control FAST. Until a plumber can get there.

The West Des Moines main floor remodel is complete. We opened up 5 load bearing walls and removed 2 non load bearing walls for starters. We removed the laundry sink pushed the wall back to open up the area to make room for the new mud room/ laundry room area. Cosmetic glow ups to both main floor bathrooms. With some new custom trim work around the new opened up area’s. Including board and batten in one of the bathrooms. The kids locker area is awesome for us as the homeowner decided she wanted to use her grandpas old church pew. So we cut it in half and put it back together to make it fit in that area. As well as all new lighting on the main floor, new kitchen appliances and updating the living room trim work. On to the basement we opened up 2 load bearing walls and moved 2 non load bearing walls to create the new gym. We removed the awkward platform that was at the bottom of their basement stairs. You had to step down into the basement living room and storage room it was a tripping hazard. We love the etched gold bathroom faucets, mirrors, and vanity lights along side all the new black door hardware. Brand new etched gold kitchen appliances. The homeowners 3 year old daughter called us her worker men. she put a show on for us whenever she could. Her mother knew exactly what she wanted and nailed it. What do all of you think ???

The West Des Moines kitchen remodel/house face lift is complete. We were lucky enough to have our work featured in the local magazine again for the 4th time in the past 2 years. We started by removing all the trim in the house and installing all new doors, base and window trim, new stair railing system. 1,800 SF of new LVP flooring. Updated most of the lighting on the main floor. As well as all new custom kitchen cabinets with Quartz countertops and new sink. We finished up this modern look with the waterfall edge on the peninsula. The homeowners knew exactly what theywanted. Bold colors, bold lighting and glitter in the grout for their tile backsplash. Out with 90’s in with the modern times.

The Phoenix, Arizona kitchen, dining room remodel is complete. We started by removing the non-load bearing wall. With lots of electrical work. We put 400 ft.² of tile flooring down and 40 ft.² of tile backsplash, all new kitchen cabinets. We removed a window as well. And finishing it off with the double waterfall 4 foot wide by 12 foot long, quartz countertop. This is was a fun project. The special order chandelier came broken unfortunately. So we don’t have any pictures to show off above the dining room
Table.

Here is the New Virginia Iowa investment property that is now sold. It was in pretty bad shape when we started. Luckily being mostly cosmetic issues and just being outdated. The previous homeowner smoked heavily in the house and had lots of pets. So we started with scraping all of the popcorn ceilings and spraying all new knockdown ceiling texture, two coats of oil base paint on all of the walls and ceiling and sub floors. With our latex paint top coats. We installed all new doors and trim throughout the house as well installing a new sterling tub system in the main floor bathroom / laundry room. The windows in the home were actually in good shape. We laid a floating wood floor in the kitchen, dining room and living room. brand new carpet in the two upstairs bedrooms, along with all new outlets, light switches and all new light fixtures. We think the live edge wood countertops with the one bay sink turned out pretty sweet !!! The basement was completely unfinished and completely wide open with just a 1/2 bath with wood paneling down there…unfortunately we don’t have any photos of the basement but just imagine a dark unfinished basement. Now complete with a 12 x 14 bedroom with an egress window and a walk-in closet, a gigantic living room with an office area and a full bathroom. Sprayed the ceiling black and added all of the modern lighting. What was once just a two bedroom one bath house is now a three bedroom two full bathroom house with a finished basement. We touched every square inch of this house on the interior. The exterior being in pretty good shape with 10 year old vinyl siding and a newer roof.. We also installed a sump pump in the basement. As that is a must. It sold fast. 4.5 weeks start to finish.

Recently finished up this 12 x 14 deck resurface project in Urbandale. Which means the deck boards and railings themselves were pretty much toast. The framing underneath was still in great shape as it was 2 x 8 joists with 6 x 6 footings. That’s what we love to see !!! We did redo the stairs entirely as you should always have a cement footing/landing for your stair stringers to rest on. Over time stepping stones move and can cause the stairs to sag in one direction. We’re always a big fan of black powder coated aluminum spindles as it adds a sweet two tone look while never having to paint those pesky wood spindles every few years. We will come back in three or four months after the green treated lumber has a chance to dry up. This is so we can apply the clear coat without worry of it rejecting the stain orclear coat being used. We call this process the seasoning of the lumber. This is just one of the many deck builds we have lined up this summer.

We recently finished up our other West Des Moines basement project. A man cave/ arcade complete with a wet bar and a full bathroom. Before we started, it was just cinderblock walls with painted concrete floor. With absolutely no plumbing. It was just a game room before but now it’s the place to be!!!! Quartz countertops, LVP flooring throughout including a massive 75 inch TV with a built-in cabinet behind it to store all the gaming systems. While also including a wet bar with 2 fridges and another TV why not. Complete with 2 barn doors and pocket door for the bathroom. The homeowner’s knew exactly what they wanted. We are happy to have provided that for them.
