When you're working with precious metals, even small amounts matter.

That's why careful handling throughout the refining process is so important. Accurate weighing, proper sampling, controlled processing, and dependable analysis all play a role in accounting for the precious metal contained in your materials.

At Mid-States, our processes are designed to minimize unnecessary metal loss and help recover as much precious metal as possible from every lot.

Because when your materials hold real value, every ounce counts.

Gold scrap sitting in your business may represent value that can be put back to work.

Broken jewelry, outdated inventory, filings, and other karat gold materials can be refined to recover their precious metal content. But getting from scrap to pure gold involves much more than simply melting it down.

At Mid-States, materials move through carefully controlled stages including receiving, melting, representative sampling, laboratory analysis, and the appropriate refining method based on the composition of the lot. The goal is to recover precious metal efficiently while providing reliable results for settlement.

Curious what happens after your gold scrap reaches the refinery? Follow the process from karat scrap to pure bullion in our latest article:

How your materials are sampled, tested, and reported can directly affect your understanding of the final results. A trusted refining partner should be able to explain the process clearly—not leave you wondering where the numbers came from.

Accurate refining starts with accurate testing.

Not all gold testing methods measure precious metal content the same way. While XRF provides a fast surface analysis and ICP offers highly sensitive laboratory testing, Fire Assay remains the industry standard because it analyzes the entire sample—not just the surface.

That's why Mid-States uses a combination of XRF, ICP, and Fire Assay throughout the refining process. Using the right testing method at the right stage helps ensure accurate analysis, dependable results, and confidence in every settlement.
