Another great blog post is live on the DBN website from DBN Fellow and Gardener Extraordinaire, Brittny Leenknegt! Check out Brittny's quarantine journey of designing and building a back-porch garden bed for herbs, complete with her designs so that you can build one yourself: https://bit.ly/2YPSPAd πŸ”¨πŸŒ±πŸŒΏ

Author: Brittny Leenknegt, DBN Fellow These past few months, though nothing short of dreadful, have provided me with a little extra time on my hands. With the state of the nation, DBN Fellows Lee, Dimitri and I haven’t been able to work directly in DBN’s garden spaces or greenhouse since quarant...

While the Opuntia Genus (prickly pear) is commonly found in the Western US the species Opuntia cespitosa is native to Sandy ranges of SW Michigan and our neighboring Monroe County. Amazingly these cactus can withstand northern Winters and produce a deep red edible fruit.🌡

We had a great time at the Sustainable Detroit Forum 2019! It is truly energizing to see and connect with all of the dedicated folks pushing sustainability forward in the city of Detroit. πŸŒŽπŸŒ³πŸŒΏπŸ™

We had a number of representatives from Healthy Urban Waters at the Sustainable Detroit Forum 2019 yesterday! Natalie Lyon from Detroit Biodiversity Network presented on Community-Engaged Green Stormwater Infrastructure and Brendan O'Leary presented with his fellow T-RUST Urban Sustainability cohorts Camille Akemann and Collen Linn on Groundwater in SE Michigan: Understanding groundwater processes for sustainable urban development.

Work in progress:🚧 DBN is working with Midtown Detroit Inc. to help revitalize and maintain a portion of the Green Alley behind

Go check out the Green Alley if you haven't checked it out already! This amazing grass roots project exemplifies the many ways alleys in Detroit can be converted with green infrastructure to manage storm water, more effectively while increasing native biodiversity and creating beauty.

We are honored to add our MI native plants to this project and continue to act as stewards of this area so our fellow Detroiters can continue to be inspired. πŸ‘πŸŒΏ @ Motor City Brewing Works
