Your bioretention cell isn’t going to fail dramatically. It fails quietly — losing capacity month by month until a downstream neighbor complains about increased runoff.

Sediment clogging, dead plant material, compaction, and blocked inlets/outlets slowly degrade performance. A neglected system can lose more than half its capacity before you notice.

Annual inspection and maintenance keeps these systems at design capacity — and costs far less than media replacement or reconstruction.

We maintain bioretention systems for commercial properties and HOAs across California. Spring is the ideal time for a professional inspection.

An inspector asks about wildlife exclusion fencing. You don’t have it. Suddenly you’re explaining a SWPPP gap — and possibly facing biological resource violations on top of stormwater issues.

Wildlife exclusion fencing often isn’t on the contractor’s radar until someone asks. But in California, construction sites near sensitive habitats have specific requirements. It’s not a nice-to-have — missing it can lead to multiple violation categories.

The good news: it’s one of the simpler BMPs when planned properly. The right fencing installed at the perimeter before ground disturbance makes compliance straightforward.

We install wildlife exclusion fencing for Northern California construction projects as part of integrated BMP packages — usually combined with erosion control and stabilized entrances for maximum efficiency.

If your SWPPP includes a wildlife exclusion requirement, or you’re working near sensitive habitat, it’s worth addressing now.

✅ Ask about wildlife exclusion fencing for your site.

The GCs who never get hit with NOVs aren’t lucky — they review their SWPPP program before rain season.

They catch what failed last year, update for CGP 2022, and go into October confident instead of reactive.

A few hours now can save you major headaches (and fines) later.

Jurupa Valley installed hundreds of StormTek™ devices — then planned for more.

They selected StormTek™ to help meet California’s 2030 full trash capture deadline. After installation, maintenance crews discovered the tool-free design made cleaning significantly faster and easier.

Better performance in the field led to program expansion.

StormTek™ has been State Water Board certified since 2006, with many units from 2007 still in service today.
If your municipality is evaluating trash capture systems, the Jurupa Valley story is worth a closer look.

Five BMPs. All listed in your SWPPP. All installed. All wrong.

→ Fiber rolls running parallel to the slope instead of perpendicular
→ Silt fence fabric on the wrong side of the posts (upslope instead of downslope)
→ Stabilized construction entrance too short or too shallow
→ Concrete washout placed too close to a drain inlet
→ Inlet protection washed out after the last rain and never reinstated

None of these are exotic violations. They’re the ones inspectors cite week after week.

After 26 years on California construction sites, we can walk a project and predict NOV risk in about 20 minutes. The patterns are almost always the same. The difference between a clean site and a cited one isn’t lack of knowledge — it’s ex*****on quality and consistent post-rain reinstatement.

If your Bay Area or Northern California site could use a fresh set of eyes before the next inspection, that’s exactly what our compliance walkthroughs are for.

Most property managers assume dry season means a break from stormwater inspections. It doesn’t.

Your MS4 permit requires documented system inspections year-round. During dry season, they shift from event-driven to scheduled — typically annual or semi-annual. They still happen. They still get documented. Inspectors still review your records.

The property managers who handle this smoothly aren’t compliance experts. They have a partner who handles scheduling, shows up when promised, documents everything with clear photo reports, and delivers something a board member or owner can actually understand.

That’s what we’ve been doing across California for 26 years. Proactive scheduling. Thorough documentation. No surprises.

If your inspection records have gaps from last season, or your dry season schedule isn’t locked in, April is the time to fix that — before the annual compliance window closes.

✅ Schedule your dry season compliance review now.

A mid-size California city has hundreds of catch basins. Every single one needs a certified full capture device by 2030 — or the State Water Board will want to know why.

Here’s how the timeline actually collapses:
→ Assessment and system mapping: 3–6 months
→ Device selection and procurement: 2–4 months
→ Phased installation (you can’t do them all at once): 12–18 months
→ Maintenance program setup: runs concurrent with final installations

That’s a 24-month minimum from decision to full compliance. For cities that haven’t started, 2030 isn’t five years away — it’s two procurement cycles.

Jurupa Valley started early. 123 StormTek™ devices already installed. 700+ more planned. They’re not scrambling. They’re scaling.

If your city is still in the “evaluating options” phase, this is the year to move past it.

There are two types of property managers in October: the ones who scheduled spring maintenance, and the ones scrambling to book a vendor before the first storm.

The difference gets made right now.

April–May is the ideal diagnostic window. Dry enough to work safely, wet enough that last winter’s damage is still clearly visible — cracked vaults, displaced media, sediment loads you can actually measure. By June you’re cleaning and prepping. By October, you want to be done.

The managers who book in May aren’t anxious in October. They’ve already handled it.

The ones who wait until August are competing with everyone else for the same limited vendor slots.

We serve properties across Northern and Southern California. If your stormwater system hasn’t had a thorough post-season inspection, this is the time.

✅ Book your spring maintenance inspection now.

Dewatering looks like a pump and a hose until you hit a sanitary sewer discharge requirement. Then it’s three permits, two agencies, and a compliance clock ticking against your pour schedule.

Here’s what most PMs learn the hard way:
→ Pumping groundwater to a storm drain requires Regional Water Board authorization.
→ Discharging to a sanitary sewer requires a permit from the local utility — with lead times that can run several weeks.
→ Hauling off-site works, but the volume economics on large jobs get painful fast.

On a recent large-scale project we managed, the dewatering scope alone required three separate permits and coordination across two agencies. Getting it mapped at the start saved weeks of schedule. Getting it wrong would have stopped the job.

We’ve handled dewatering on everything from parking garage excavations to large residential pads across Northern California. We know what the agencies require and how to keep your schedule from slipping.

If dewatering is on your scope and you haven’t mapped the permit pathway yet, start now — not two weeks before you break ground.

✅ Talk to our dewatering team before you break ground.

Most storm drain service companies clean the basin.

The smart ones also prove compliance.

A truck can vacuum out sediment and still leave you exposed if there’s no proper record of what was found, how much was removed, or the condition of the structure. When regulators or your HOA board ask for proof, the real question isn’t “Was it cleaned?” — it’s “Can you show it?”

Strong storm drain service should deliver:
•Before & after photos of each catch basin
•Sediment depth measurements and removal volumes
•Structural condition assessments
•Schedule 1 / local permit compliance notes
•Ongoing maintenance history tracking
