Pics from an add-on project to the existing house mentioned in a previous post. The client wanted to add a back porch off their Master bathroom. The rough opening for the door and window transom was cut out from where a window was originally located.

The concrete slab, footings, and column bases were combined and tied-in together for a single monolithic pour. The continuous pour eliminates seams and joints that could be potential weak points over time. Setting the concrete forms for this pour was a challenge, but more efficient and cost-effective than separating into multiple pours.

Photos from a project we completed years ago after the client lost their home to a tragic fire. Overall, the existing exterior stone cladding held up well during the intense heat of the fire, but we replaced damaged stones by "toothing out" sections and filling in with new pieces. Mortar joints that cracked were cleaned out and repointed as needed. Also, the stone surface had to be cleaned of soot, ash, and creosote build-up with grinders.

The entire house was rebuilt with the client's hopes of preserving as much of the original aesthetics as possible while making improvements in the layout and design. New steel doors and windows were installed which added a newly upgraded look. The roof was framed with RigidLam LvL's to add extra durability to the structure. Also, a peel and stick ice and water shield underlayment was used to cover the roof decking before the slate tiles were installed.

The project was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work at a beautiful location for an incredible client. However, the project presented many challenges along the way. The site location was roughly 70 miles to the closet lumber yard in San Angelo, TX and 30-40 miles to the nearest town. Coordinating material drop-offs, scheduling trades at different phases of the project, and ensuring the safety of everyone on the job site were just a few of the many challenges. Sometimes a client needs a good visual aid or "mock up" of the proposed design. The idea here was to show the scale of the exterior sconces and determine the appropriate mounting placement. You can also see how framing was done around the door in preparation for plaster mesh or metal lath used to form the column caps and molding.

Progress pictures of an arched ceiling into dormer windows on a previous add-on project. Typically, most projects are straight lines and you don't usually get an opportunity to work on many that involve curved ceilings or walls.

This was a challenging job with many involved throughout the entire process. Planning and collaboration with team members was the key to working out all the fine details.

A polyresin material was used when milling specific pieces of molding that had to contour with the sharp degree of the arches. Also, several pieces of molding had to be scribed and coped to fit the column caps at the bottom of each dormer window.
