The temperature is dropping remember the symptoms of cold stress to keep you and your buddy safe!
Know the symptoms of cold stress:
•Reddening skin
•Tingling
•Pain
•Swelling
•Leg cramps
•Numbness
•Blisters
Extra tips while working in the cold:
•Dress properly; wear at least three layers of loose-fitting clothing, insulated gloves, and boots, and cover your head.
• Monitor your physical condition and that of your coworkers. Use a buddy system!
• Stay dry and pack extra clothes; moisture can increase heat loss from the body.
• Take frequent breaks in warm, dry areas.
• Drink warm liquids.
Risk factors for cold stress include:
•Wetness/dampness, dressing improperly, and exhaustion
•Predisposing health conditions such as hypertension, hypothyroidism, and diabetes
•Poor physical conditioning
