Six years of care, craftsmanship, and collaboration—honored to be part of the restoration of Cathedral of St. Raphael.

Take a look at the journey in the video below!

From window restoration and masonry work to carpentry, the following Gronen team members, in addition to Terri Droessler, truly went above and beyond, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and pride in their work: Joel Anderson, Travis Boeckenstedt, Rod Chapman, Emmett Clair, Lewis Clark, Zach Droessler, Chris Eagle, Connor Ehlers, Chris Evans, Chris Glasker, John Howard, Randy Kearney, Scott Klein, Travis Klinkhammer, Miah Lux, Adam Schwendinger, and Russ Shaffer.

Special thank you to our partners on this project, Stickley Morton Architects, Mike Stickley and Tammy Black, were instrumental with the design phases.

A huge shoutout to the local and regional artisans and craftspeople who lent their talents, expertise, and countless hours to this project, including: Conrad Schmitt Studios, All American Scaffolding, Paulson Electric, Home and FloorShow, Tim Droessler Plastering, Thompson Wood Floors, Paramore Hardwood Floors, Mountaintop Stoneworks, Rob Droessler Construction, BSSC, Dubuque Plumbing & Heating, Kanndo Professional Services, Midwest Restoration Services, Hoskins Pipe Organ Company, and Jeremy Rudd Art and Design.

Check out the transformation of the cupola at the Mathias Ham House! Over the past several months, the Gronen team dedicated countless hours to restoring the storm windows and frames, followed by the installation of the new sashes, which were newly crafted by David Wadsworth. The result? A stunning view now framed by even more stunning windows.

A year of progress, teamwork, and momentum—all building toward the finish line. The Field of Dreams Ballpark is in the homestretch and on track for completion this summer.

For a project of this scale, moving from design through construction in under 20 months is uncommon—and a reflection of the coordination and commitment across the entire team.

We’re grateful for the dedication of our partners, contractors, and crews who continue to move this project forward every day. As Construction and Project Managers, we’re proud to play a role in bringing this vision to life.

With important final phases still underway, this project continues to take shape—honoring the site’s legacy while preparing it for the future.

"It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving." —Mother Teresa

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Butler family during their time of loss. Alice Butler, alongside her husband John, was a remarkable philanthropist whose generosity helped shape Dubuque. From the Security Building to the Town Clock Building to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Dubuque and more, the Butlers have been passionate champions of historic preservation.

Alice's impact will be felt for generations—in the places she supported, the lives she touched, and the spirit of giving she inspired. Our thoughts are with Alice’s family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Momentum is building at the James Sullivan Building, and the transformation is impossible to miss. Under the ownership and vision of Fischer Companies, this historic space is being thoughtfully reimagined into modern townhomes and apartments that blend character with contemporary living.

With restoration in full swing, each detail is being brought back to life while introducing the comfort and style today’s residents expect. By early summer, the James Sullivan Building will stand as a vibrant new place to call home—where history, design, and community come together in a truly distinctive way.

Today we celebrate a truly special milestone as we recognize Shaun Davis on her retirement after more than 10 years with us.

Throughout her time in both accounting and HR, Shaun has made a lasting impact—not only on Gronen, but on every member of our team. Her dedication, knowledge, and genuine care for others have helped shape who we are.

While today marks her official last day in a full-time role, we’re especially grateful that this isn’t a goodbye. Shaun will continue supporting the team on a part-time basis, and we’re fortunate to still benefit from her experience and presence.

Shaun, thank you for everything you’ve given to this team over the years. We are so appreciative, and we wish you all the best on this next journey. We’re lucky to have you—and even luckier that you’re not going far!
