As of 9:30 P.M. on 4/15/2020, Bergen County Department of Health reports, Dumont has 197 presumptive positive cases with 2 confirmed related deaths (no change).
As some of you may know, Borough of Dumont, New Jersey Mayor and Council positions are volunteered. The majority of us work full-time jobs that range from educators, a principal, a business consultant, and an executive director. My career is in law enforcement.
I share this information and photo with you to show you the extra steps that I, and many other essential employees, have to take to help limit the possible transmission of at home. While some of these steps are simple and easy, some of our essential employees have equipment and articles of their uniforms that cannot be cleaned in a washing machine and should be disinfected daily. Here are some of the measures I follow, which were shared by health care professionals:
๐Take off your shoes before entering your home
๐งฝSpray alcohol or bacterial disinfectant on top bottom of shoes
๐ฑDisinfect cellphone, glasses, keys, computers, etc.
๐งผGo to a location where you can take your clothes off and put them in the washer.
๐งบIf you do not have a washing machine, utilize a specially designated laundry bag and wash the clothes as soon as possible.
๐ฟGo to the bathroom to take a shower.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆNow it is safe to hug your family.
I know these are challenging times, and I want to get back to some type of normalcy just much as everyone else, but when I see a call to open our parks, or we need to "Open America Now," I feel defeated. Our health care professionals, first responders, and essential employees are not only worrying about their health and safety but the well-being of their families. We've seen doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and essential workers, amongst many other people die from , especially in NJ. Our professions DO NOT make us immune.
In just seven days, Dumont's cases increased by 31% - 4/9 150 to 4/15 197. I don't share this to cause panic but to show the reality of the situation. But, If we continue to work together and to , we will get through this, and hopefully soon, we will see these numbers decrease.
Stay calm, stay positive, , and God bless our essential employees.
