Flocculation is the step that follows coagulation in wastewater treatment.

After coagulants help suspended particles begin clumping together, flocculants are introduced to help those smaller clumps form larger chains called floc.

As these chains grow larger and stronger, they become heavy enough to begin settling out of the water. This process is known as sedimentation and is an important part of separating solids from wastewater.

Mixing still plays an important role during flocculation, but it must be done more gently to avoid breaking apart the forming particle chains.

Operators Unlimited provides coagulants, flocculants, and custom treatment solutions based on the specific characteristics of each wastewater system.

Maintaining proper pH levels is a constant challenge in wastewater treatment.

One commonly used chemical is Caustic Soda, also known as Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). It is a strong alkali with a high pH, making it effective for raising pH levels in water.

In wastewater treatment, Caustic Soda is often used to help neutralize acidic conditions and support processes such as heavy metal removal.

Operators Unlimited supplies Caustic Soda solutions and supports facilities in selecting the right approach based on their system requirements.

Polymers play an important role in wastewater treatment.

In simple terms, polymers are large chain-like molecules made up of smaller units. Their structure makes them effective in helping separate “dirty” particles from water.

In wastewater treatment, polymers can be used in the coagulation process to help particles join together and form larger clumps called floc. This allows solids to settle out more easily and improves the overall treatment process.

Operators Unlimited provides a range of polymer products designed to support different wastewater systems. Because every operation is different, we often develop custom blends based on the specific characteristics of the wastewater.

One of our most widely used solutions is OU 100, a blended coagulant that helps improve floc formation, leading to better settling, clearer water, and more efficient operation.

Many wastewater facilities are facing a growing challenge: a shortage of qualified operators.

As experienced operators retire and fewer young professionals enter the field, plants are often left with limited staffing or a single licensed operator managing the entire system.

When operators are stretched too thin, maintaining compliance and consistent operations becomes more difficult.

Operators Unlimited provides operational support for facilities that need experienced wastewater professionals. Our team includes licensed operators across multiple levels of wastewater treatment in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.

We can provide part-time or full-time operational support, Operator of Record services, inspections, training, and consulting. For some facilities, we also develop a Complete Managed Care program that supports the entire wastewater operation.

In wastewater treatment, the term “cake” refers to the solids that remain after water has been removed from sludge.

Sludge dewatering is a challenging but necessary process that separates solids from liquid so the remaining material can be handled and disposed of properly.

One effective mechanical method is a belt filter press, which presses the sludge to remove liquids while polymers help condition the solids for separation.

Another option is the use of geotextile filter bags, which allow water to pass through the porous material while the sludge remains inside and dries over time. This can be a very effective and cost-efficient method for many facilities.

Operators Unlimited has helped customers address sludge challenges using multiple dewatering approaches depending on the needs of the facility.
