It's Halloween time in Yanceyville!

Chemtek's been building solutions for the transportation and construction industries for 50 years. This series is about the people carrying that work into the future.

Next up: Thomas Bretzmann.

Thomas wears a lot of hats in Chemtek's marketing department. On any given day, he might be building a website for one of the company's lesser known brands, translating product labels into French or Spanish, working on PavePro social content, or out in the field shooting photos and video for the next post. "My role impacts Chemtek because I'm bringing in qualified leads to the sales team," he says. "I'm often one of the first voices our customers hear, and I help establish our brand identity and motivate people to try our products."

One project stands out to him: building the FrictionOne website from scratch. "There wasn't much about those products online initially," he says, "and now we generate 15k impressions per quarter and a few leads each day, which is impressive for such a niche brand." He also built out PavePro's online training program, a project that's saved the team significant time onboarding new staff.

What keeps him going day to day is the people around him. "It is a blessing to spend every day surrounded by such hard working and talented staff," he says. "Everyone is patient, kind, and thoughtful."

2019 ➡️ 2026.

Beyond the fact that every single person in these photos grew up in a competitive pool, what stands out most is how a team evolves.

Seven years ago, Joshua, Natalie, MJ, and Matthew made up the marketing department. Today, Joshua is leading the charge as Director of Sales, Natalie and MJ are onto great things elsewhere, and Matthew is steering the ship alongside Thomas and Andy.

Team structures change, but the hardwork stays consistent.

Next up: Carissa Boyer.

Behind the scenes, Carissa keeps Chemtek's books running smoothly. Her day-to-day covers invoicing, matching purchase orders, catching discrepancies before they become problems, and staying in close contact with vendors on payment status, along with customer invoicing and other accounting work that keeps things moving.

What's kept her here is the culture. Having grown up working in a family business herself, Carissa knew what a close-knit environment felt like, and coming to Chemtek was a big adjustment at first. "I quickly came to appreciate how welcoming and supportive everyone is, and how easy it was to feel like I was part of the Chemtek family," she says.

One memory still stands out from her first year: walking in to find Starr had completely decorated her desk for her 21st birthday. It's the kind of moment that told her she was exactly where she belonged.

Grateful for the team that keeps our Yanceyville plant running. Behind every order is a crew that shows up, gets it done, and does it right.

Next up: K'Shawn Childress.

K'Shawn joined Chemtek a few years ago as a chemical blender at our Yanceyville plant. It didn't take long for his hard work, dedication, and attention to detail to stand out, and he's since moved up to Production Floor Supervisor.

Every day, K'Shawn brings the same thing to the plant floor: a smile and a work ethic that gets the job done, no matter what it takes.

Next up: Peyton Rigsbee.

Peyton's mornings start early, working through overnight orders from the Small Business Store and existing customers, making sure everyone gets what they need as fast as possible. From there, it's new leads, product education, and a steady stream of calls and emails from customers across the country.

Peyton's role was new when she stepped into it, giving small business customers something they didn't have before: a direct line to a real person. "Prior to my role, customers were being sent to our online store and might be unsure which PavePro product works for them," she says. "By having someone to speak with, they can have the confidence to then make a purchase and continue the relationship for years to come."

The wins that stick with her aren't the big ones. They're the everyday calls. "I have so many customers who call in and say they've tried everything and that nothing is working," she says. "It's a gift to be so confident in your product and to be able to assure them that PavePro will be effective for them."

Her favorite memory so far is one shared by the whole team: Chemtek's 50th anniversary celebration. "A lot has changed over 50 years," she says, "but the goal of helping people has remained the same."

From smoke to skyline, Durham has never stopped building. Since 1976, Chemtek has been building right alongside it. This is our home. This is where we do business.

Every move came with its own soundtrack. 50 years of offices, warehouses, and the songs that were popular when we were in them.
