We are passionate about using technology to improve the quality of life of its users, and as athletes, we know how critical physical therapy is to a better quality of life. Physical therapy and healthcare should be all about the patients, but right now physical therapists have no way of knowing whether patients have completed their exercises, whether it’s been completed correctly, and whether pati
ents are in pain. And that’s why we’ve put aside our basketball rivalry to make physical therapy finally all about YOU. Tiba Health was founded at the Triangle Health Innovation Challenge (THInC) in September 2015, and is a cooperative initiative between students from Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who are passionate about improving health outcomes using technological innovations. By bridging the gap between tech and healthcare, Tiba Health will improve physical therapy for both the therapist and the patient through a three-way solution:
1. Easy-to-wear Tiba device tracks motion in 3-dimensions
2. A mobile app, linked to the device, provides real-time, corrective feedback to the patient
3. An interface integrated with electronic health records (EHRs) displays collected exercise data and progress to the provider
Therapists receive valuable metrics about their patients, while patients receive real-time feedback to improve their therapy experience at home. The mobile app will also facilitate patient-provider communication, while allowing the therapist to monitor patient data to modify the exercise regimen based on patient progress.
