Memorial Day is more than the start of summer. It is a day to remember those who never made it home — and the families who carry their legacy forward.

Remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Maintenance pro tip: Prevent material build up.

Accumulation of dust and rock around moving parts can cause failures...in pivot motor bases, support springs, roller bearings and the vibrating frame.

Preventative maintenance on every element of your rock plant can extend the life of your screen media and other wear parts.

And, don’t forget to check that channel rubber when installing screens.

Worn out Channel/Rail rubber and improper screen tensioning can decrease the life of screens and increase expenses.

Proper installation of screens and channel rubber helps to maximize production and decrease maintenance.

Postcards from the Iron Range!

That's an awfully BIG tire. Imagine the rock!

Minnesota’s Iron Range, the unique geology of the land exposes iron-bearing materials. It’s referred to as the Mesabi Formation, an iron formation deposited around 1.2 BILLION years ago – BILLION! Yes, you read that right – Minnesota’s Iron Range was formed before dinosaurs walked the Earth.

That’s especially “hard rock.”

What difference can a tooth profile make? Increased capacity, greater wear life, better grip, increased open space for fines to pass through and more.

A sharper tooth profile can change the grip and give you higher surface pressure = better grip between manganese and the rock.

The more aggressive the tooth profile, the greater focused stress = fracture rocks with less energy AND gives you faster discharge of fines.

Fast Fact: Teeth in the center portion of the jaw are designed to concentrate crushing forces at their crowns, giving maximum breaking force. Valleys between the teeth allow crushed material to fall freely to the lower portion of the crushing chamber.

Don't forget: Liners can be designed for specific applications.

Pro Tip: Removing the fines from the feed before it’s passed to the crusher avoids accelerated wear of the jaw dies and increases the crusher’s performance.

Not all wear parts are created equal.

What sets Unified manganese apart from other suppliers? Aside from the LARGEST inventory of wear parts across the country...

✅ The quality of the process begins at the foundry

🧐 Unified products are inspected four to five times during the actual manufacturing process

🌡️ Everything from the heating of the material, to the pouring temperatures, even the cooling, and then the quenching process are closely monitored.

You want the NEXT set of wear parts to last as long as the last set.

Why does the ‘hooked’ part of the hooked screens matter? Because quality fabrication ensures correct edge prep and screen size for correct tensioning and optimum production.

Proper screen size and tensioning are critical for effective screening and longer screen life.

Unified edge preparations fit OEM and customer-designed equipment properly for optimum tensioning. Banded edges strengthen hooked edges and provide even tensioning across the screen.

Don't forget to throw a bucket of bolts onto your next delivery!

And here's the "save and share" part...

Bolts are important to proper tensioning:

📋Make sure crown bar is engaged in channel rubber and is consistent in height
✏️Check to make sure clamp rails are not misshaped and are the same length as the screen media
🔩For bolt-type tensioning, check height of bolt holes and check for missing bolts
🧹Clean the rail and hook edge thoroughly
🔧Tighten inner clamp rail bolts before moving to outside bolts
⛓️‍💥 Check for cracks, broken welds or loose bolts on screen box or deck

Questions about blinding? We've got answers.

Deblinding Bars help to eliminate blinding and plugging while maintaining accurate sizing. They use the vibration of the screen box to move and bounce on the woven wire or urethane panels.

Benefits:
💪 Increased Productivity

🔧⬇️Less Maintenance

🛠️🛡️Safe Maintenance

✅⚙️Safe for ANY Screen Media

💧 / ☀️Works for WET or DRY Applications

We’ll supply you everything you need to affix the deblinding bars to your screen box.

Note to self [and maybe more "note to the team"]: Our conveyor is NOT just a single piece of equipment. It’s made up of all those mutually dependent components – like the belt, idlers, pulleys, load zones, transfer points, skirt boards, cleaners.

And each part affects the performance of the other. Things like product build up, spillage, or edge damage can wear parts too quickly and cause damage down the line.

Also, note to self [and PLEASE note to team]: Unified supplies each of those interdependent parts! If it goes on a rock plant, we supply it!

Single source makes it so easy for your front-line team. Save⏰and💰.

And, while we're talking rock plants, don't forget: Unified maintains the largest inventories of screen media in all of North America.

The better your screening, the less unnecessary crushing you need, you decrease your power usage on your crusher AND your conveyors – reducing wear, downtime and overall plant costs.

Domestic weaving and finishing and a regional presence at our 14 facilities across the U.S. allow us to offer the best service and on-site expertise for all Unified products, including the largest inventories of wear parts.

It also makes it possible to provide 24-hour delivery of products on our stock list and fast delivery on custom orders.

Let’s talk tensioning! 📸 Snap and Share

DO:
📋Make sure crown bar is engaged in channel rubber and is consistent in height

✏️Check to make sure clamp rails are not misshaped and are the same length as the screen media

🔩For bolt-type tensioning, check height of bolt holes and check for missing bolts

🧹Clean the rail and hook edge thoroughly

🔧Tighten inner clamp rail bolts before moving to outside bolts

⛓️‍💥 Check for cracks, broken welds or loose bolts on screen box or deck

DON'T begin screening:
⛔If the crown bar supports doesn't create a consistent or proper crown curve

🚫If screen media doesn't fit snugly against all crown bar supports, or is worn, bent and missing rail rubber

👍Correct tensioning will help maintain optimum production and reduce the chances of premature wear on your screen media.
