Why the cut is vital to quality?

The cut is the moment raw stone becomes a specified product.

Everything before it is geology.

Everything after it depends on the precision of that pass.

Architects don't spec "about an inch and a half", they spec to a tolerance, a clean, true cut means treads sit flush, pavers lay tight, and joints stay consistent across a hundred-foot run.

A bad cut shows up later as a lipped edge, a crooked joint, or a callback.

It reveals the stone.

Bluestone hides its character until it's opened.

The saw is the first honest look at color, density, and grain.

Pieces that don't grade out get pulled here, before they ever reach a pallet.

This is where the 30 to 40 percent rejection rate on natural cleft starts paying off for the customer.

The primary method of extraction in bluestone quarrying is to drill and blast with cord.

This requires a series of holes to be drilled the depth of the bed to the next layer.

Explosive det cord is laced through all the holes, and a small charge pops the block and shears it along the length of the line, freeing it from the mountain.
