If your work keeps your hands overhead all day, your recovery should too.

The first session in Coach Shannon's Built to Last conditioning series focuses on a challenge familiar to drywall finishers, ceiling installers, electricians, painters, and countless other trades: the wear and tear that repetitive overhead work places on the shoulders, chest, neck, and upper back.

This week's recovery routine includes:
✔️ Banded Pull-Aparts (upper back strength & flexibility)
✔️ Wall Angels (shoulder mobility)
✔️ Doorway Pec Stretch (chest and shoulder flexibility)
✔️ Thoracic Rotations (spinal mobility)
✔️ Chin Tucks (neck release)

Simple movements like these can help improve mobility, reduce stiffness, and counteract the repetitive motions that come with a career in construction.

Building a strong workforce means investing in the long-term health of the people doing the work. Recovery and conditioning aren't just for athletes - they're for anyone who wants a long, healthy, productive career in the trades.

MZ Construction is proud to once again sponsor the annual SACNY Golf Outing at Radisson Greens on Friday, June 12th.

Supporting organizations that strengthen the construction industry and create opportunities for connection across our community is important to us. We're especially proud to have our own Andy Zombek actively involved in SACNY and helping support its mission.

If you're attending, registration begins at 8:30 AM with a 9:00 AM shotgun start, followed by a buffet lunch after golf.

We look forward to another great day on the course with our industry partners and friends.

Before we kick off Built to Last, we're taking this week to do something important: prepare for success.

Coach Shannon's Pre-Challenge Tip: Schedule your workouts before the challenge starts.

We schedule safety meetings. We schedule deliveries. We schedule inspections. The things that matter get a spot on the calendar.

This week, take 10 minutes to block out time for movement, recovery, strength building, or conditioning during the upcoming challenge. A plan beats good intentions every time.

The official Built to Last challenge will now kick off on June 8th, giving everyone an extra week to get organized and ready to build habits that last.

Commercial construction is tough on the body. Long hours, repetitive movement, heavy lifting, and chronic strain can take a toll over time - and recovery matters just as much as hard work.

That’s why the next Stronger Together challenge is focused on building a workforce that’s truly Built to Last.

Starting June 1st, our second challenge of the year will focus on strength, recovery, mobility, and injury prevention with support from Coach Shannon, including recovery education, trade-specific stretching routines, and practical ways to stay strong for the long haul.

At MZ Construction, we don’t just invest in projects - we invest in the people building them.

Stay tuned for registration info, coming at you soon!

This Memorial Day weekend, we pause to honor and remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, dedication, and commitment will never be forgotten.

From all of us at MZ Construction, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful holiday weekend. Please note that our offices will be closed on Monday, the 25th, in observance of the holiday.

Congratulations to Nick Lamphere on earning his MZ Loyalty Coin, nominated by Robert Ryan. 🏆

Over the winter, Nick proved himself to be a key asset on one of our most important jobsites - showing up day after day in tough conditions with a strong work ethic and a team-first attitude. Reliable, adaptable, and always willing to do what’s needed, Nick consistently stepped up and took on a leadership role, supporting Scott Peebles as part of the first crew on site.

The Loyalty Coin recognizes dedication, commitment, and the values that make MZ Construction strong. Nick earned it through hard work, consistency, and the respect of the team around him.

Well deserved, Nick. Welcome to the next level of the MZ Coin Journey.

Recently, the MZ Construction team completed work at the Specialty Surgery Center of Central New York, supporting a minimally invasive repair project within an active surgical environment.

Led by Foreman Derek Gibbs, with Dominic and Tyler on site, the crew carefully established full containment procedures before work began - including negative air systems, floor protection, poly barriers at operating room doors, and temporary corridor walls to maintain cleanliness and sterility throughout the process.

Once the area was fully contained, ceilings were removed to allow access for the installation of a new air handler and supporting trade work. After completion, the team reinstalled ceiling systems, removed containment materials, and performed a full wipe down of floors, walls, and countertops before returning the space back to normal operation.

Healthcare environments require a different level of planning, communication, and attention to detail and our team takes pride in understanding the unique needs of every facility we work in.

At MZ Construction, we believe hard work and dedication should be recognized.

That’s why we created the MZ Loyalty Program - a unique recognition system designed to celebrate the people who build our success every day. From the Loyalty Coin, to the Pillar Coins representing Productivity, Quality, Technology, and Safety, all the way to the prestigious Family Coin, each step reflects a commitment to craftsmanship, leadership, and the Martin-Zombek family values that define our company.

These coins are more than recognition pieces. They represent trust, growth, and the culture we’re building together as a team.
