Happy Monday! It's still May - so another post about Mental Health Awareness!

The theme for this year's Mental Health Awareness from Mental Health America is "More Good Days, Together"

MHA’s More Good Days, Together campaign is about meeting people where they are and
recognizing that “good” looks different for everyone. It doesn’t always mean being happy or
productive; sometimes a good day is simply one that feels manageable, calm, or comfortable.

Here is a first step toward building more good days, together.

1. Define what “good” means to you

Take a moment to ask yourself, “What does a good day look like for me?” It’s okay if your answer
changes over time.

Let us know in the comments what a good day looks like for you!

If having good days (or even thinking about good days) feels hard, know that help is available
and that you are not alone. Check on your mental health with a free, quick, anonymous test at
mhascreening.org.

Another day, another Mental Health Awareness post for May!

Today our team attended a webinar on increasing our personal emotional awareness! We listened to Sophia Loubeau-Griggs, LCSW discuss the importance of emotional awareness at work and at home. She shared techniques for recognizing "Emotion Traps" and moving through those traps to reground and center ourselves.

Here's what some of our team thought:

🧠We often get "too wrapped up" in what we're feeling to actually identify what we're feeling and why and what that feeling is rooted in. This makes it harder to respond using the logic center of our brain! (This is human nature!!)

🫸🫷 Connecting on a personal level with coworkers about a shared experience can actually feel quite supportive; we all have feelings and we can all improve how we deal with them!

We have a 7-day Plan & Challenge to try... will it change how we experience our emotions and the context around how we feel? Can we respond differently to the challenges we face in our workplace and industry?

Today's webinar was hosted by our Employee Assistance Program through TotalCareEAP! Don't underestimate the benefits and services provided through your company's EAP!

Another day in May, another post about Mental Health Awareness!

In our industry, specifically, there's more to destigmatizing the "tough-it-out" attitude when considering mental health.

The Construction Mental Health Alliance recognizes 5 areas of importance in maintaining good mental health as a construction worker.

😊 Wellness
👷‍♀️Head Injury Prevention
🩹Pain Management
🫩Fatigue Management
🫂Suicide Prevention

We'll explore each of these throughout the month to better understand the factors that contribute to a healthy mental state!

This week is Construction Safety Week AND May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Now wait, before you scroll, ask yourself:

Why does mental health matter in construction and what does it have to do with construction safety?

Construction workers (and apprentices!) face plenty of workplace pressures: long working hours, physically demanding labor, job uncertainty as the seasons change, for apprentices - classroom workload and financial stress can all contribute to mental health struggles.

If we consider the term "safety" in a broader sense, it includes physical, mental and emotional safety on and off the jobsite. Protect your body and protect your brain!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the construction industry has the second-highest su***de rate among workers in the United States. That's roughly four times the national average.

The problem is that the term "mental health" doesn't have a great reputation, especially in a male dominated industry that praises "mental toughness" and an "embrace-the-suck" attitude. Because of this, many construction workers shy away from getting the support they might need. But mental health awareness and support can and does include a different definition mental toughness or mental fortitude.

This month, we're joining the movement to dismantle the mental health stigma and why mental health matters in the construction industry.

🚧 National Work Zone Awareness Week 🚧

🦺 April 20–24, 2026 🦺

This week serves as an important reminder that work zones are more than cones, barrels, and flashing lights — they are active job sites filled with real people working hard every day. 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

Construction workers, inspectors, flaggers, and crews are doing their jobs just feet away from moving traffic. Their safety depends on every driver making the choice to slow down and stay alert.

Too often, speed and distraction turn routine work zones into dangerous — even deadly — environments.

Slow down. Stay focused. Save lives.

At the end of the day, every worker deserves to go home safely to their families.

Let’s all do our part this week — and every week — to make our roads safer.

Success in construction is not just about the projects you complete.

It is about the foundation you build behind them.

At Merit Apprenticeship Alliance, we help contractors strengthen that foundation through apprenticeship programs that support your workforce from start to finish. From recruiting apprentices to delivering NCCER accredited training and managing compliance requirements, we provide a structured approach that prepares your team for today’s demands.

When your workforce is trained and aligned with industry standards, you gain more than support. You gain consistency, reliability, and the confidence to take on new opportunities. You are not just reacting to the work in front of you. You are preparing for what comes next.

Our apprentices are learning through real-world experience while building the skills needed to contribute immediately on the jobsite. This creates stronger teams, safer environments, and better project outcomes.

The companies that grow are the ones that invest in people, build with intention, and prepare for the future.

Build your workforce.

Strengthen your business.
