The South Street Greenhouse is a mess these days. In the first bitter cold days after Christmas we lost all of our beautiful tomatoes. The basil, peppers, artichokes and the nasturtiums also gave up the ghost, and almost every day a different water pipe or hose has frozen and burst, either with a deluge or a spray. The greens seem to be holding on, though some around the perimeter have wilted, but they are not producing, just surviving. The good news is that the girls seemed to have ramped up their egg production to almost 2 dozen a day, which is amazing for 28 hens, considering it's winter and half of them are molting. The temperature inside on a day like this gets up into the mid eighties during the day, if you are out and about on the south end and need to thaw out, and warmer days must be coming soon.
