Eric Laracuente, Ayres’ IT director, reminds us to stay sharp against cyber threats, especially during Cybersecurity Awareness Month. With the increasing number of cyber threats, it’s crucial that we all stay vigilant and follow best practices to protect our personal and professional information. Here are some quick tips to keep your information safe:
1. Stop. Verify. Then Trust.
Don’t rely on email, Teams messages, text messages, or phone calls alone when money, credentials, or sensitive information is involved. Verify requests using a known phone number or direct conversation.
2. Protect Your Identity
Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and never approve an authentication prompt you didn’t initiate yourself.
3. Think Before You Click
Be cautious of unexpected links, QR codes, attachments, shared files, and login requests, even if they appear to come from trusted contacts.
4. Use AI Responsibly
Only use approved AI tools for company work. Never enter confidential client, project, employee, financial, or contract information into unapproved AI platforms.
5. Secure Information Everywhere
Store files only in approved company platforms and follow data classification requirements when sharing information internally or externally.
6. Report Anything Suspicious
If something feels unusual, report it immediately. Early reporting helps contain threats before they become incidents.
