Low pitch valley rafter- LVL sides w 3/4” by 9” by 20’ steel flitch sandwiched between. Making the best homes requires a lot of technical skill. Making high performance, green homes requires even more.

We temporarily secure our plates together then gang cut them so they’re exact same length, something I learned from Stumpy in Washington State quite a few years back. Some peeps bump them together and lay them out but I find there can be variations in plate length which can cause walls to be a bit out of square or layouts to differ. Since finishes go on the frame we want them as square, plumb and true as possible.
