The best part of our open house this past Friday and Saturday? The incredible people who took the time to stop by.

A special thank you to Craig Anderson and Joe Mondry for attending, asking thoughtful questions, and joining the conversation about the future of housing and property development in the Twin Cities. We were also thrilled to welcome more than two dozen homeowners, investors, and community members who came out to tour our latest ADU and explore what's possible in their own backyards.

Every event reminds us that while we build structures, it's the people, conversations, and shared ideas that truly bring these projects to life. The energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm we experienced over the weekend made this one of our favorite open houses yet.

The backyard revolution is officially sweeping across the Twin Cities, but which side of the river is leading the charge?

To find out, our team at Hopewell360 dug straight into the raw, official building permit data from both Minneapolis and Saint Paul from 2021 through today. The findings are officially live in our latest deep-dive blog post: "The Twin Cities ADU Race: Minneapolis Leads, but Saint Paul is Closing the Gap."
The numbers tell an incredible story of local housing policy in action:

The Minneapolis Head Start: By eliminating owner-occupancy restrictions back in 2021, Minneapolis unlocked a massive head start, securing 2.4x more total structural ADU permits over the last five years.

The Saint Paul Surge: Thanks to the passage of Ordinance 23-43 in late 2023, which slashed red tape and doubled allowed density per lot, Saint Paul's permits skyrocketed overnight—nearly matching Minneapolis toe-to-toe.

But the data also highlights a massive roadblock. While the zoning codes have opened up, the sheer headache, cost, and disruption of traditional on-site backyard construction keep production numbers low.
