One point I completely agree with is that AI gives independent private practices a real opportunity to thrive again.

AI has allowed me to build a software company focused on creating the tools my practice actually needs—not the tools designed for the average health system. As a result, I’m able to deliver more personalized, efficient, and comprehensive care than I could when I was part of a large healthcare organization.

I believe the future isn’t AI replacing physicians—it’s AI empowering independent physicians to provide better care than ever before.

Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸

Today feels like the right day to reflect on freedom, purpose, and new beginnings.

For a long time, I have wanted to practice urology the way I believe patients deserve: with more time, better organization, clearer communication, and a stronger connection between the patient and the doctor’s office.

Patients should not feel lost between portals, phone calls, insurance rules, scattered records, and unanswered questions.

They should feel guided.

That is why I am starting a new patient-first care model focused on urology and men’s wellness.

The goal is simple: help patients stay more organized, better prepared, and more connected with my office and their care team.

Part of this model includes an app that helps patients keep important health information on their own device, share symptoms and updates more clearly, prepare for visits, and follow through on screening and next steps.

The app does not replace doctors. It helps patients and doctors communicate better.

To build this properly, I realized I needed software that did not fully exist yet.

Through God’s grace, I connected with James Patterson “Pat” Wicks, an incredible cybersecurity expert, who introduced me to Charwin Vanryck deGroot, a world-class AI software engineer.

Together, we are building LA Digital Systems, a new software company focused on practical technology for healthcare and business, and LA Strategy Institute, focused on helping organizations use technology and strategic intelligence in a smarter way.

There are other pieces of this larger vision that we will share soon.

For now, I am grateful to announce the start of a new chapter in my career.

Patient centered. Physician aligned. System supported.

Reusable scopes have served medicine well for decades, but they require extensive cleaning, disinfection, rinsing, drying, tracking, and maintenance. Single-use cystoscopes eliminate that entire process. Every patient receives a new sterile device, and that gives me confidence and peace of mind.

When people hear that I'm a robotic surgeon, they often assume innovation means bigger technology, more complexity, or expensive new machines. Sometimes innovation is exactly the opposite.

Proud moment for patient safety.
About 8 years ago, I developed the Savatta-style lateral positioner to help make lateral (retroperitoneal) surgery safer and more stable for patients—especially during longer cases where pressure points can become a real risk.
I’m very happy to see these positioning strategies being used more widely, and even happier to see outcomes data supporting the benefit. A recent Urology Practice quality-improvement paper, “Under Pressure,” reported that after implementing improved lateral positioning support (including The Pink Pad system), the team saw:
✅ Fewer hospital-acquired pressure injuries (4.6% → 1%)
✅ No elevated CK events (11.8% → 0)
✅ No clinical rhabdomyolysis (2.6% → 0)
It’s a good reminder that the “little” things in the OR—like positioning—can make a huge difference for patients.
