A unique region on earth where thousands of people are breaking tomorrow's barriers today through innovation. Hundreds of historic firsts have called the airspace above home, anchored by a combination of Edwards Air Force Base, Mojave Air & Space Port, and USAF Plant 42. This is where the X1 flight test team and the Bell X-1 first broke the sound barrier on Oct. 14, 1947, and where other X-planes
pushed that record to two, three, four, five, and six times the speed of sound and beyond. It is here that the X-15 probed the threshold of space and where the space shuttle first landed on its initial return from earth’s orbit. Today, our combined workforce is still at the cutting edge of aviation technology, developing, testing, and evaluating the newest weapon systems and aircraft to ensure reliability for America’s warfighters. Edwards is the test-bed for today’s premiere aerospace technology programs including the B2, KC-46, Global Hawk, Hypersonic flight, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, and the B-21 Raider. The Aerospace Valley Air Show is an entirely new event dedicated to showcasing the best of STEM and aviation. Organized by the 412th Test Wing, Edwards Air Force Base, this event will be the first open house for the base in 13 years. The weekend consists of a large STEM Expo with nearly 60 hands-on displays and activities, a large air show headlined by the USAF Thunderbirds Flight Demonstration Team, and several surprises you will have to see to believe! Crowd favorites such as a Kids Zone and beer garden round out the entertainment. General admission to show grounds is free to everyone.
2022 marks the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force, while October 14, 2022 marks 75 years of breaking the sound barrier over the sky above Edwards. During this weekend, we will pay homage to both legacies with historic aircraft and sonic booms, mixed with the latest in cutting-edge aviation... You never know who will drop in from the desert sky! This event is entirely run by volunteers and is to showcase the greatest in STEM and aerospace for our community
