The events of August 3rd left an indelible mark on the El Paso/Juarez Borderplex. It was a day driven by hate, perpetrated by an outsider from the community. It was a stark reminder that technology can be used to spread hateful messages and bring untold tragedy to a region suddenly and unexpectedly.
Microsoft, in partnership with the El Paso Community Foundation, the University of Texas at El Paso, and Cyborg Mobile will be hosting a 3-day hackathon aimed at developing technological solutions that Empower the El Paso/Juarez communities.
Students will be working with senior technical and business talent from Microsoft, local companies, and entrepreneurs to improve local outcomes for Community, Education, and Safety. Throughout the weekend, participants will have opportunities to learn from engaging workshops and activations, gather input from industry and community leaders, and connect with other members of the local innovation community.
The event is expected to have between 300-500 participants.
