QUALITY YOU CAN STILL SEE 30 YEARS LATER. This septic replacement uncovered a piece of our family’s excavation history—and workmanship that still held up after three decades.

After 30 years of hard-water exposure in Sun Country, the tank’s concrete had deteriorated enough to fail the septic Use Permit Inspection. While reviewing the septic installation records as part of our due diligence, we discovered the original tank had been installed by DM Construction, our late father’s excavation company.
During the installation of the replacement tank, we found all the existing components to be expertly installed – all pipes at perfect slope, joints securely fastened, and tank perfectly level.

A gravity-fed septic system less than five years old experienced premature leach field failure at this County Road 77 property.

We investigated the system to determine what was causing the early failure and discovered that the residence's water softener was purge-cycling more frequently than normal, sending excessive volumes of high-salinity discharge into the septic system. This contributed to conditions that overwhelmed the existing leach field.

To address the underlying issue, Mathews partnered with N2IT Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Inc. to reroute the water softener discharge line so it could daylight into a designated rock drainage area rather than discharge into the septic system.

We then removed the failed leach field and installed a replacement pressurized bed system designed by Colorado Geoscience & Design.

As an additional safeguard, we installed an overflow pipe in the new pump tank. This gives the property owner the ability to discontinue the pump cycle in the future and redirect flow back toward the original field if conditions allow.

The goal wasn't simply to replace a failed field—it was to identify why it failed prematurely and address the contributing issue so the replacement system has a better chance of performing as designed.

We’re excited to kick off this much-anticipated addition to the arena! While construction is in progress over the next few weeks, all scheduled events will continue as planned.
