Aviation-Archaeology Exploring early California aviation starting with John Montgomery in 1858, in Yuba City, Ca. and with In the manuscript was the mathematical formula for flight.

Early control flight aviation, must start with the story about John Montgomery, born in 1858, in Yuba City California. As a young boy he would see birds in flight, along the Sutter Buttes, and wonder one day if he too could fly. As a young man living with his family in San Diego, he built mono-wing glider, and with the aid of his brother James and a stout rope launched his glider from the Otay Mes

a in glided 700 feet with a rudimentary control system, the year was 1884 19 years before the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk North Carolina. John Montgomery worked 25 years and wrote a manuscript called Soaring Flight. He gave a copy of this manuscript to Octave Chanute describing the parabolic wing used to create left. John went on to become professor Montgomery at Santa Clara college in California he continued his experiments in flight building a tandem wing aero plane called the Santa Clara. On April 29, 1905 professor Montgomery demonstrated the flight of the Santa Clara launched by a hot air balloon at the altitude of 4000 feet. Guided by the aeronaut Daniel Maloney the Santa Clara landed safely.

Aviation-Archaeology is once again up and running on Facebook. Many things have changed in the last few months, here is a few quick updates. The: James has a new permanent home at Crown Air at Montgomery Field east of San Diego.
I just finished with my friend Gill a model of the Montgomery Pink Maiden. I will post some photos as soon as I can. I still have my hangar at K SA C executive Airport in Sacramento..
It is our idea to create a new website dedicated to the life and achievements of John J Montgomery and his work in pioneering aviation long before the Wright brothers. Thank you for all your patience.

After a medical problem I am back to work on the glider Santa Clara type glider named Cullen James. I completed the third wing section (there are 4 sections) and will start covering the fabric soon but first I want to light and power the hangar first. I am building a mobile power cart using solar panels, deep cycle marine batteries, that will provide LED lighting and charging areas for batt operated tools and equipment. then I will continue working on the glider. I could use some help, if you in the Sacramento area. THX

Next week or so my webmaster and I are going to be updating the Montgomery website and I requested to install a general store so I can offer merchandise online. I'm not seeking any financial gain, but I want to offer items like T-shirts and hats, Quest for Flight and any other items that can be used as a fundraiser program for EAA, or the Reno Aviation Museum. Also at this time I'd like to offer a line of apparel featuring John Montgomery related products for fundraising. Again I want to emphasize that the items offered will be for not-for-profit organizations.
