NGM and UNLV have built a strong partnership around developing the next generation of mining talent, and the UNLV Geosymposium is a key component. The student-run conference gives graduate and undergraduate students an opportunity to present their research and receive feedback from members of industry, government professionals, academic experts, and members of the community.
Several of the presenting students at this year’s Geosymposium are part of a partnership between UNLV and NGM that connects academic research with real-world mining questions. These students work as interns for NGM during the summer and get firsthand experience with what they’re studying.

Every shift at Leeville begins with the same trip underground. Before mining starts, crews gather at the shaft and ride the cage hundreds of feet below the surface to begin the day’s work and keep the operation moving.

This is one of the last stops before the gold is poured into doré bars. During electrowinning cell cleanouts, refinery employees recover the gold collected throughout the process before it moves on to the next stage of refining. While the pour often gets the spotlight, it's work like this that makes it possible.

This is the second year that the our Mine Emergency Response Team (MERT) and the AU Ranches Team held an annual wildland fire training. A team of 26 NGM employees safely burned large piles of tumbleweeds along approximately 3.1 miles of fenceline at the Welch Creek Farm, part of the TS Ranch, to reduce fuels that contribute to fast moving fires while strengthening coordination between neighboring land users.

This preparation proved vital during the 2025 fire season, when lightning ignited the Sheep Creek Fire on NGM-managed land. With hot temperatures, high winds, and rangeland dominated by cheatgrass, the fire had strong potential to spread quickly. Trained NGM employees were first on scene and worked alongside government agencies to hold the fire to approximately 4,200 acres, with no loss of livestock or major infrastructure and limited impact to underground operations.

Twelve students from the Austin Combined School recently visited the Phoenix Mine for an immersive, hands-on learning experience. The visit gave students an opportunity to explore careers in mining. They learned about the importance of safety in every aspect of mining operations, visited the Mine Maintenance Shop to see the innerworkings of heavy equipment, and toured process facilities to find out how metals like copper, silver, and gold are extracted at the Phoenix Mine.

Our success as a company is built on the safety, dedication, commitment, and leadership of our people as individuals. To reward employees who go above and beyond, NGM recently launched the Excellence in Action recognition program. Employees are nominated for demonstrating excellence, and the prize is a trip to see a Las Vegas Raiders NFL game at Allegiant Stadium. The group of winners who attended the September 13 game against the Miami Dolphins were recognized for “celebrating the diversity of our safe workforce.” Attendees praised the experience for making them feel valued and giving each the opportunity to meet new people.

NGM is proud that we have women in positions at every level, from operating heavy machinery to metallurgists, to geologies finding the next discovery to leading the company in managerial and executive positions. This is so important because if the makeup of our workforce reflects that of our society, we build a more prosperous community and more resilient company.

Most people will never see what it's like to operate a haul truck capable of moving hundreds of tons of material in a single load. From high above the mine, operators navigate haul roads, receive their next load, and move material across the operation —a perspective of mining that few people ever get to experience.
